Help me pick armchairs to match settee?w the

last month

I have an antique settee that is teally comfy and want to pick out a pair of armchairs that complement. The settee is reddish mahogany with an old multicolor persian carpet as the upholstery. Can you help me pick armchairs that are not too fussy or formal but complement?

This photo ahows the room, which has alot of assorted furniture in it right now. The future layout is two armchairs on either side of the fireplace each with a floor lamp and and side table. and this antique settee. The wood work is all golden oak and the walls and rug are the same color. Do any of these chairs seem right to you?
Thank you ;)

Soory how can that be comfy????? Make you life simple move that piece into the entry or a bedroom then have some chairs for actual comfy seating. No chair that is comfy can be found I do not think to work with that really cool piece just not there . Then just 2 or maybe 4 chairs for a nice converstaion area and to enjoy the FP

well that is a strong opinion! haha! I apprecaite your insight and input.

There are a lot of traditional styles chairs that would match this like wingchairs, Bergere, lots tub chair styles, etc. This is a sunny library and I think this chair may workout especially since the house itself is not much younger than the chair.

Would that barrelback in velvet be too dark?

Can I put an channel back style in with similar wood tones in a solid?

I would rather have a lighter color chair but I cant think of how to manage it.

I feel certain there is a way i can blend this into the room

Awesome settee. I love how eclectic your room is.

The first two chairs you posted will go well with this space because they have a more petite frame and won't over power the room with the boxy feel of a more contemporary chair. I don't like the last two for that reason. Have you sat in either one of them? Comfort seems paramount in this library space.

Your rug is really throwing me in here colorwise. Are you wed to it? Could you turn it over and try using the back instead? Curious what that would look like. Can you post a more clear pic of the settee. I can't understand the colors well from your second pic.

I'm aching to see your art above the mantle lowered and it is shouting out for a wood frame.

I've got to know more about that artwork. Can you post a close up? Who made it? I'm completely intrigued.

I am usually blunt. I love odd pieces in a space to add interest but function always for me is a must. Maybe explain how you use this space and why this piece needs tobe there . I do not like the rug you have in the space but who knows since we do not even know the size of the space or what the rest of the home looks like . Too little info. The art too high the room is cluttered with pieces that do not appear to have a function .Foe me the settee needs to be the star so whatever else you get needs to be simple and useful

    THnak you Kendrah and Patricia!

Agree, Patricia, the jumbled furniture in there now is because I am laying out furniture in other rooms and this is a clearinghouse room of odds and ends right now. None of the stuff 'lives' there. The rug, the furniture is all from surrounding rooms. Four armchairs in a conversation circle was my first thought for this room and is a classic layout I appreciate but it doesn't look right. It just looks like a pile of chairs. I think this is because the windows are low and the chairs need to be lower back or if they are high back they block the windows. The low back looks insubstantial and the high back looks cluttered. r

If I do a pair of armchair in front of the fireplace and a settee, it works a lot better. This settee feels sturdy and has a super thick seat cushion that is nice to sit on. It is all a cool blue-tone reds/ cream/lavender-blue antique rug upholstery.

Yes! The painting is too high. We just painted this room and somehow the painting is rehung a lot higher that it was. I didn't even notice till you said something. I agree on the frame. I do not know if I would reframe it but it is something to consider. The artist is Jim Riswold. He was a wonderful guy who passed away recently

I would select #1 because of its simplicity & the curves that I think complement the settee.

It's such a unique and beautiful settee that I think it could stand alone as almost an art piece/accent piece with almost any style chairs you choose.

If you’re interested in any of this stuff—from Adolf to V.I. Lenin—for your walls or floors, please contact my kids because I'm dead at jimriswoldart@gmail.com.“

Classic. I’m loving this guy already. Thanks for the scoop.

Four chairs seems crowded for this space and too symmetrical. But I’m biased against the look. Feels like an intervention or AA meeting is going to break out.

If you are keeping the rug, I’d get light bright upholstery and just have the settee be the odd one out. Will be a fine punctuation. Better than the tug of war between team light and bright walls, fireplace, art, wood trim, and rugs and team dark earth toned upholstery.

What about one of these for two chairs next to the fireplace?

I agree that those chairs are darker but I do need something that isn't too too light. We have lots of activity and it is right next to a fireplace and its ashes, etc. I do like the look of the first and the second chairs a lot but they are deeper earthy colors. I have been looking for something lighter.

Yes, Jim has passed away but was a really amazing creative person. He is missed by many
