We moved to a home with a more open layout than we have ever had last year and now are ready to buy new furniture, starting with the great room. My main question is layout--what pieces would you use in this room and where would you place them? Secondarily, I need some lighting--what and where? There is a floor outlet under the small table between the two chairs. Any ideas about art placement are also welcome.

Everything in this room can go, although my husband would like to still have a recliner when the dust settles. I would like to minimize blocking the only window although I think low-backed seating could work. We are empty nesters but entertain some and would like to seat at least 6 comfortably, whether for conversation or watching TV. We will be buying a new (slightly larger) TV and mounting it. Of course, we need to maintain a walkway between the great room and the stairs.
