Living Room Furniture and Wall Decor Help!

last month

Hello! I just painted and decorated my built in and mantle. Now it is time for furniture. I would like a Lovesac or Macys Radley sofa in a light cream or beige color for in here. I was thinking I would do a love seat with chaise along the railing and a regular, long couch along the wall? A chair by the cabinets? Looking for any ideas or inspiration for furniture, rug, wall decor! Don’t mind the organized Halloween candy all over the floor, haha.

as you said you just painted the mantel and built in white, I am wondering what color it was?

to make a small room appear larger, minimizing the contrasts often helps

painting the built in and mantle a tone in the brick could do that.

How many people do you need to seat? two sofas pushed against the walls is a lot, as you can see by your sectional. Appears to be home to Small children, is this also a playroom?

You already have a carpet, why another rug?

Have you tried your existing sectional in front of the rail/wall? As far as wall decor, do you have existing decor to repurpose from another room? Children's art? What colors and decor are you attracted to?

Really like Lyn’s idea to paint the mantle & bookcase/cabinet a color from the brick. That’s the first thing my eyes were drawn to, the contrast of white/brick. it looks “choppy.” to me.

Lyn: the built in was a terrible dark brown wood that also went all the way around the top of the ceiling. This photo really does make it look “choppy.” I feel like it’s not such a stark difference in real life; however, this photo you posted is gorgeous and perhaps it would be more gorgeous in one of the brick colors as you have suggested.

We are only a family of 4 but entertain often. This sectional is from our old house and is here just because I didn’t have something new. It is entirely too long to put against the rail. It would be all the way to the door! The black storage bins have toys, but all of those are moving to a different room. I’m not attached to anything I would love to have in here as we doubled the size of our home and everything I had in our only living area at the time I sold.

I would say I like tans and blues. I debated putting new carpet down or a rug because I don’t love the color of this carpeting.

IMO there are two options with the Radley: Either s short sectional or a sofa and lounge chair. You could also add an ottoman for lounging.

Sorry the builtin is a tear down IMO not something to highlight with white paint . Best ot have been painted to minimize it so close to the bricjk tone . It looks like it is sitting in front of brick is that the case ? It just is an odd piece for sure Waht do you use this space for ? TV watching is almost impossible as you have it now .

I would search for a low profile, legs exposed sofa so it doesn't overwhelm the room.

with littles I understand the sectional along the long wall. With the door there as well, how about an enclosed shoe storage at the end of the sectional? to create a partition from the door opening and as a landing zone for 'stuff'.

I'd add two petite low back swivel chairs in front of the railing for additiona seating.

a very tall slim storage unit on the wall where the black bins are now. IKEA and Wayfair have lots of great storage solutions for shoes and storage. The gray walls are sad, I'd sample some beige tones similar to the carpet. ? do you know there is wood under the carpet or merely a underlayment for the carpet, or is the plan for a wood floor with an area rug?

It would be great to use the same flooring throughout the house rather than something different. Maybe carpet is the best option in the long run.

I agree with Pat the white built ins are not the right color.
