Not for me. Especially not with the chandelier. What is the upholstered chair in the picture of the DR? It works with all the wood & the style. Did you replace the 2 smaller arts with a larger one?

    I'd keep what you have.

The yellow walls aren't doing the room any favors and the framed prints are either too few or too small. Not sure how the red mattes work with the colors in your rug or draperies.

No. The wood on those chairs will not look right in here. If you want to make this space look less formal, the biggest impact will come from swapping out the lighting and drapery for a more transitional choices.

The woven texture and light wood tones will soften the formality, adding warmth and a casual, coastal or transitional feel. This will make the room feel more inviting and less “stiff.”

But I am concert about light wood legs and your dark wood table combo. I would paint/stain them to coordinate with your table.

Check this inspro pic for this kind of chairs. I replaced your formal heavy drapes with just linen panels.

Why? Less formal? Why? Every think else is formal. Want less formal, start with the window coverings.

It's a very pretty room; but I don't see those chairs doing anything for the space, they look more boho than the aesthetic that's going on. Consider removing the valance to lighten the space, using a decorative rod at the window. And perhaps, get a large, raised pot stand with a fiddle leaf fig for the window corner.

A big no to those they do not work in the space .I would however change the chairs at the ends of the table to something less stuff looking maybe asimple parsons chair and the formal drapery to something less fussy . That will give the space a bit of a facelift but not crazy .If the flowers are real keep them if fake sorry no way. I aslo do not ever like fake plants

I agree with above - new drapes, chandelier and art will make the room room look more fresh. Those chairs don't work with anything in the room.

Agree about new drapes! And I think you are focusing on the wrong chairs. A new simplified host and hostess chair will go a long way:

Don't think the chairs you are proposing would fit well in your overall scheme.

I get the desire to tone down a formal dining room look. I had those exact same chairs and wanted my home to look less traditional when I staged it for resale. I swapped out my wood chairs for molded Herman Miller-esque plastic chairs. Huge change. But, I also swapped out the light fixture, added a contemporary settee, and removed an antique bookstand from the room. You can do a lot in here to make it more transitional in here.

You need to change more than just the side chairs to successfully move the room towards a well-designed less formal / less matching room. The chairs are one of the last items I would change.

Changing the drapes, light fixture and art, as suggested, will help. The matching breakfront/china cabinet is formal and a very large presence in the room. To change to ”less formal”, this needs to go imo. Consider replacing it with a long sideboard (perhaps black or blackened) with art over it.

New paint color and new seat cushions may be needed to coordinate with the above changes.

They are lovely chairs, but unless you are wiling to gradually make changes in room to suit, I’d skip. Maybe consider if you are at a stage where you want a more casual atmosphere and want to invest to do so.

The other alternative is just editing/replacing a few things (rug, window treatment, paint color) if you want a less formal look.
