landscape design along fence in Texas

Hello! I have a landscape design dilemma! I have no eye for landscaping but currently working on our fence and feel like we need some more color along the front. I love different shades of green and red/purple. I was thinking incorporating texas sage, red yucca and unsure what else. I dont want too many plants and want them spaced out without too much maintenance and strong enough to endure texas heat and random freezes. Any suggestions?

I love texas rangers! There are so many different sizes, leaf and flower colors its east to get variety just using them.

Red Yucca is a great tough plant to use with them, agaves and cacti are also great low care plants that provide contrasting coarse texture to their fine leaves. Heres white cloud two weeks ago in our yard.

Fyi- The small tree in middle is not as close to fence as it looks.

Texas is a large state with multiple planting zones. Do you know what planting zone you are in? Soil type...clay, sand, rocky, acidic/alkaline? We've got 'em all. A photo of the full front would be helpful.

Were in Dallas. I dont know the planting zone but we are in a culdesac in top of a big rock so very rocky underneath.

We put the fence in front of an ugly retaining wall and it dips down and we are going to fill with dirt and hoping to find something to plant that will look good

You could add in some ornamental grasses, they do not require a lot of water.

I second what mojavemaria says. In addition, you are in planting zone 8, which means you could have oleanders for a tall splash of color along the fence that is evergreen, deerproof, pollinator friendly, and drought tolerant all in one pretty package!
