we will get some better lighting eventually in above pics. we moved in less than a year ago.

I've been thinking of going with a either greige-ish wall color (edgecomb G, Winds Breath, ballet white, classic grey) or going bold with a study type look with a darker color in the sage green/ brown green category (louisberg green, saybrooke sage, evergreen fog ish type colors). im torn… any thoughts on what would work with the limestone fireplace and red-orange wood panelling and beams?

Before you repaint, which I'm not sure is necessary, I suggest your rearrange your furnishings as you see below. You'll likely need a larger rug for your room.

If you move the sofa and chairs, you can relocate the TV

I'd recommend you add chests to either side of the fireplace with art above and buffet lamps to add some softer lighting to the room.

I think the room could benefit from drapery panels that don't blend into the walls on each of the windows.

Paint is not necessarily the fix for the room.

thanks but i like the arrangement as is for the space. the sofa would block and overlap the base of the staircase therby blocking flow of traffic. it is not wide enough at the base of the staircase to accommodate that. pictures can be misleading that way.

im only searching for color input as it is currently a stark white wall against the wood panelling. its to drastic of a color change for my personal taste so i was thinking of coming on this platform for suggestions re color.

I like your idea of going darker for a cozy rustic vibe, I would move a bit beige/brown direction rather than green. Are you using Sherwin Williams Colors?

    SW Techno Gray

or even darker with a SW Honed Soapstone might look nice with the stone.

    or SW Zeus

I love your space as is but totally get the want for change. I would actually paint a few swatches because there is a lot going on in the space and I would not want to get it wrong

I’m using BM because i have two untinted gallons hehe.

yeah im into not playing it safe and going a little moodier for a cozier vibe. i like the second suggestion.

Reminds me of this combo which i think also works!

    thanks for your suggestions :)

    @WestCoast Hopeful ty!

i have started with a couple of swatches to see what direction to love into.

ive started with edgecomb gray and dove wing but then started thinking about going bolder … im just on here to see what swatches to start painting next… they arent cheap and can add up so want to make smart choices to swatch :)

as mentioned. we just moved less than a year ago. im not done with the interior yet. the drapes are from our previous home and will be changed eventually… one thing at a time… pacing costs and prioritizing other things first. paint being something that i would like to change personally.

I think the AI image is too gray, and could look gloomy. The Winds Breath or Edgecomb would be a great option for the ceiling and a darker tone for the walls.

Look at the mortar on the stone, that might help too.

Edgecomb is a nice neutral. We have grey owl throughout.

FYI, Edgecomb gray turned violet-ish in our home, idk why. Whatever you choose, sample in several locations, lighting conditions.
