Which floor plan? Kitchen vs Living Room facing the yard

Hi everyone. We are debating 2 floor plans, and the main debate is whether to have the kitchen in the middle back of the house facing the yard, or the living room there with sliding patio doors. If it’s the kitchen, the entrance to the yard would be further to the left side.

See floor plan for version with the living room facing the yard. In the other version, kitchen would be where living room is, and living room would be where dining room is in bottom right corner. That bottom corner is facing a large tree and a cul de sac around a green patch, so not the worst view either. Dining room would then move up to where kitchen is in the drawing.

Whether it’s the living room or kitchen in the spot facing the yard, it would have some thorough traffic as you need to walk through there to get from one side of the house to the other.

Which is better and why?

without seeing the exterior land and location, and how you will use the exterior spaces.

the main factor for me is the natural light.

I prefer morning sun in the kitchen just for starters.

If you do a lot of summer grilling, you may want themkitchen closer to the geilling area.

Do you have photos of what it looks like now? Need some visuals to help.

Where is the access to get outside? Is there a deck or just yard? Also some dimensions would be helpful.

This is tough, because it is nice to have a kitchen on and exterior wall for windows and venting. It is also nice to lounge around on the sofa watching birds or the snow or the rain and just relaxing with the view.

Do you have a plan showing what is to the left of this area? It's hard to figure out without the whole space being shown.

There's potential for a great space here - you might need some out of the box thinking.

First since a redo or build forget that bumpout thry create more issuses than they ever solve . As for which space to the backyard that depends on what is in the backyard in the first place . Do you plan an outdoor kitchen then IMO the kitchen opens to the kitchen outside . Right now not enough info to answer the queation I need to scale floor plan and the space where the yard is and what you plan for the yard. Iassume the black box is the FP do you need one ? I do however wonder whay laundry in the LR and is that box stairs in the center ?

What is the box between the living area and laundry? Stairs?

Please add measurements to the floor plan. It’s hard to see whether your layout is feasible.
