Well….I’ll just check to make sure!

I hope you see the humor in this. I couldn’t help but laugh. In Home Depot, the top of the can tells you the color of the paint and yet…..

While this one did not have a sign, I have seen one in another location

asking not to open the cans.

Ridiculous! I'm going to check my local Home Depot next time in and see if it's the same.

Makes an i teresting art installation. Having someone walk through the paint while its wet would add an interesting touch.

Are customers afraid that someone is opening the cans & swapping the lids?

It kind of reminds me of my experience yesterday at Staples. I was looking for paper for a couple of specific purposes. All the paper is wrapped, of course, but people have torn a corner of the paper ones to see if they like the paper. Lucky for me! Because I need to feel it, too. I had brought in samples of what I wanted, and the folks at the Print Center are so helpful, identified the weight easily. But gee, I still wish I could FEEL a sheet of paper before I buy a ream.

Uh....I've done this, albeit on my finger and not the floor. The color on the lid is not always a true indication of what the color will look like -- if I want an exact color I want an exact color, not one that is "close enough". Browns seems to be particularly hard to get just right IME.

ETA: I recall one of the big boxes by me (forget which one) hung a big piece of posterboard next to the spay paint for this purpose. That was a good solution -- they knew people were going to do it, might as well give them something to spray on rather than the floor.

I don't go to HD, but I'll check Lowe's next time. This doesn't surprise me at all. Nothing does anymore. People feel entitled to do what they want.

Here the spray paints are locked behind grille type doors that the staff have to unlock. This is done to reduce thefts of spray paint by taggers.

Based on the graffiti I see, the taggers seem to getting all the paint they need.

I haven't looked lately, but I imagine spray paint is locked up at my HD as well.

Pretty sure they’ve been locked up here for years with an 18 or older restriction to buy. Not that it matters; it clearly hasn’t made any difference with the taggers.

Spray paint is not locked up around here. I recently bought some orange paint to 'tag' all of my ash trees that are dying from an invasion of the dreaded Emerald Ash Borers.
