Inspiration and ideas for furnishing this almost blank LR/DR combo

Hi all, I just moved into this L-shaped lr/dr combo apartment and am looking to furnish the main living area. It's got great light, parquet flooring and lots of white wall space! (please pardon the mess) The only item I plan on keeping in the lr is my 93in C&B lounge sofa in a monet champagne color. For the lr area, the main pieces Im thinking about purchasing is an entertainment system/tv stand/bookshelves. I do like walnut(ish), non-orange, brown wood colors. I would also like to purchase a dining table with similar coloring. I currently have a homesense console thats in the picture but am tired of the dark wood and want to lighten things up.

I'd like to have a cohesive look between the lr/dr so it would be great to find a furniture collection that includes both dining and lr pieces even though it doesn't have to be matchy matchy. Ideally, made of solid wood if at all possible.

All ideas and suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance!

To add more lounging capacity to your LR you can include an ottoman like this matching version. Lounge 39" Square Cocktail Ottoman + Reviews | Crate and Barrel

A tray make it work for snacks or other things.

SOBU has minimalist and European pieces. Ethnicraft at SOBU

Lexington represents a range of US manufacturers at direct ship pricing. All Brands - Lexington Furniture

A densely woven rug is an option. Nylon and wool will last.

@dan1888 Thanks Dan. I hadn't thought of an ottoman but that could also serve as a coffee table, so appreciate it!

@BeverlyFLADeziner Beverly, I like the layout you provided. It gives me a good guidepost how to proceed. Thank you so much! Just a few questions/thoughts.

    - Are the 2 yellow squares supposed to be end tables with lamps?

    - And also curious as to thoughts on the size of the console I should get for the tv. The tv is 65 inches but the sofa is 93 inches. The one I have now is 68 inches.

    - I also need a bookcase/shelf somewhere. I was thinking of have narrow ones on each side of the console but maybe that's outdated, I'm not sure.

@BeverlyFLADeziner Thanks! These are super helpful ideas.I really like the 1st and 2nd shots - they represent the style furniture I was thinking as well. And I also appreciate the shots with the dimensions - they made me realize my current and prior furniture layouts were a bit disproportionate. Who knew! :)

    Truth: Below

Follow text below the ugh/inconvenient layout down here.

Never pay serious attention to floor plan "layouts lol , not always good.

( what's that "dance hall space"l behind a couch too close to a tv?)

You need room to move, without leaving a vacuum of useless space.

You can't really have "end tables" you will crowd logical traffic passages. Better? Tuck that 93" couch right up to the window wall....and put a console behind it for lamps....The room is 11' wide and your couch takes nearly 8'!!! of that width.

You "don't love" your tv console, but you DO want bookcases. .....Think low, and UNDER the the tv. Nine feet of them will give you books and display, they are easy to find, especially in WOOD , just butt straight sides together.

    There you go.

Matching is 100% unnecessary. No reason a dining table need match a book case!

Add some color, so perhaps START with a rug you love, in 8 x 10..

A wood dining table, but UPHOLSTERED dining chairs.

Accent swivel chairs for conversation with that couch!....

    Make an entry drop zone

Have friends for dinner, leave room to move with a round table, some softness with chairs

a console on the left long wall, find art you love

flows right into....living and tv space

    Your couch.....your fabric

    Got books!!

    8 x 10 rug.... nature green, washable : ) and inexpensive

    Books behind doors...

    behind my couch!!!

    Add a pair of lamps

Find a nice natural fiber.... loads of texture and easy harmony in 6' x 9'

You get the idea...you do you, whatever you love, and please use some c.o.l.o.r?

All on the above pics? FITS........... right down HERE to the inch, cozy, but room to move through your space.

@JAN MOYER Wow! I'm so blown away by this unique floor plan you provided. So much detail for me to consider. I wouldn't have thought to place the sofa or the tv over bookcases directly next to the wall but can see how by doing that, alot more free space opens up. I can play around with the stuff I have to give me an idea of what it would look like.

I'm not sure about the dining table being the first thing at the front door but will give it a try using my utility table and see how it looks. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness in the detail, along with the dimensions and suggestions for art, color, design that you provided. Such great ideas!

Thank you so much for the thoughtfulness and attention to detail! Really appreciate it!!

@JAN MOYER ooooh, love the idea of the cocktail nook when you first come in! Switching the dining table back by the balcony and you can still play spot the cook either way!

Let me ask you - i forgot to mention this adjustable desk I have in the right hand corner - photo below. Do you think that could stay where it is given I wfh or does it take too much away from the living space? This is a rental btw so I can only do so much with the floor plan. No knocking down walls! :(

    OY!!!!!

You don;t need to do a thing with the walls.

    Why don't you do this:

Take a week, get as much stuff stored, and out of sight as possible.

List on Marketplace or donate, all this extra clutter and small meaningless like tiny tables, you don't really need in there.

You have a lot of what you don't need....missing what you really want: ) ?

Hard for me to see the darn desk and IXNAY!!

TO THE HUGE CHAIR with it lol

Spend time with all three ways in sketches and it seems this below your fave?

How often is a dining table in use for dining? It can double as a desk? Mine does!

Can you just lower it and use as a console with a lamp at the chat area?? or in the entry as a drop zone table for keys, mail, phone charge?

@JAN MOYER Brilliant ideas for that darn desk! And the big ole chair that goes with it. lol. I could use the dining table for work - another good suggestion!

I agree, too much clutter that needs to go. I'm going to sit with these designs and move stuff around according to your fps and see where I land.

I really appreciate all of your insight! 🤗

I would also loooove to see some natural woven wood shades on those windows, instead of the institutional mini blinds!

    Alas..Rome isn't built in a single day: )
