How to set up this attic room? Need help with layout & ideas.

last modified: 15 days ago

I’m finishing an attic space and want to turn it into a cozy room for movies (projector), gaming, and playing guitar.
I added the floor plan + a few photos from different angles.

What would be the best layout?
Where should the projector screen, seating, guitar corner, storage, etc. be placed?
Any ideas for cool elements that would fit this space?

Appreciate any suggestions!

    You have ONE photo, NO floor plan.

    You must wait for any image to clarify, lose the gray before you submit

    I hope there's another larger wall on the opposite of the one we see head on. For a room to be for movies you need space and a large screening area. The 'side' window/opposite wall looks way too tight for watching TV/movies.

    We need much better pics and a floor plan. Waht was the plan I see no place for a projector and screen except that far wall and only a small space on the left

    Thanks for the comments!
    Here are a few details about the space:

    The middle section can’t be used because that’s where the stairs are underneath, so there’s no full-height floor there.

    Both sides have a sloped ceiling, so only a couple of walls are tall enough for a screen or furniture.

    When we say..we need a "floor plan", ( it should say "fully measured floor plan") we are not kidding.

    You need to provide a 2 dimensional flat on paper ink only drawing of the walls, and all. Show stair, landing, and I will tell you right now you may be seeing space that will not contain your wish list....height of the short walls, and the point on the "floor" use a broken line, where a six foot four inch human being may fully stand, minus a crash helmet.

    In other words, your pics are ONLY MEANINGFUL as an adjunct to actual feet/inches on paper, for the entire space.

    @JAN MOYER

    I finally measured the attic properly and made a simple floor plan.
    Here are the main measurements:

    • Total height (floor to ceiling peak): 2.72 m
    • The two side walls are low because of the sloped ceiling
    • The middle area can’t be used — stairs underneath, no full-height floor there
    • Full dimensions are shown on the plan I attached

    I would really appreciate help figuring out how to use the space with these limitations (sloped ceiling + stairs void).
    Any ideas for a layout, projector placement, or storage would be super helpful. Thanks!

    This is an American site can you give the dimensions in feet & inches? Where are the skylites / windows located? Size of the stairs and how far the hole extends?

    @millworkman

    Here are the dimensions converted to feet & inches:

    • Left side wall: 21 ft 2 in
    • Right side wall: 21 ft 2 in
    • Bottom wall: 33 ft 4 in
    • Top right wall: 13 ft 7 in
    • Top left wall (wardrobe area): 9 ft 11 in
    • Ceiling height at the peak: 8 ft 11 in (2.72 m)

    The attic has a sloped ceiling on both sides, so the full height is only in the center — the knee walls get lower toward the edges.

    Windows / skylights

    There are two skylights, one on the left slope and one on the right slope.
    They are located on the angled roof, not on vertical walls.
    So the daylight comes from both sides, but the usable wall height under them is reduced because of the slope.

    Stairs

    The stairs are shown in the plan I attached.
    The stair opening extends into the middle part of the attic floor, which means the center area cannot be used for standing or placing furniture.

    Let me know if you need exact skylight sizes or the height of the knee walls — I can measure them as well.

    They are going to tell you that you need to update the plan with the feet and inches because it’s hard to look at your comment. Just wait :). What do you plan to use the space for? Do you need storage? What is your style?

    @WestCoast Hopeful

    Thanks! On the left side I’m planning to build a wardrobe/storage area, since that part has the lowest ceiling and is perfect for closets.

    On the right side I’m thinking about creating a small home-theater setup or something similar — I really like stylish, modern spaces with clean lines, wood accents, and a cozy vibe.

    Let it be noted......Americans love their allies across all the "ponds" and seas and to the north across the lovely lakes. We are lazy in one regard only as most of us work our asses off and yes, even for free right here, as we are a generous sort.. Our brains function in FEET AND INCHES and that is that.

    IF you want to post in meters, go on the UK /Australia sites where your brains all funtion in meters and fractions thereof. : )!!!!

    Get a drawing posted that makes sense to us . Read @ Millwork. You have to put a broken lines on that plan , where a normal somewhat normal ceiling line exists.!!!

    Stop dreaming of theaters and wardrobes here, until you do that!
