Brent's Place Quilts # 11, 12, and 13

last month

I finished three more quilts for Brent's Place - like Ronald McDonald house - but sponsored by our state's Lions Clubs. This makes 13 total I have finished for them. They are all approximately 50 x 70. Unfortunately, they need over 120 quilts a year. All of the tops are from my stash but I purchased fabric for the backs.

I've made this pattern before, but still love the bright colors.

I couldn't find any "Fishy" cotton I liked for the back, but found some fleece that I thought I would try. I used white flannel between the layers because there was so much white on the front and didn't want the back to show through. It was the first time quilting using a fleece backing and went okay - It is definitely different than quilting with cotton!

The last one I also used fleece for the backing, but no layer between. It was easier to quilt (but also a much easier design!

These will head out to Denver on Saturday on our way to Arizona!

I'm with Donna, I really like the fish one. But all are colorful and bright and I'm sure will be well received and loved. You have a good heart, Sue!

I love bright colours too :-D I love the crayon quilt, so cunning :-) On the fish quilt, the fish in the middle of the bottom row has a dot that's fortuitously placed so it looks like an eye :-D

Sue, what great kids’ quilts! I can only imagine how comforting they must be for those poor kids. They are all sweet, but I love the fishy one too.

Sue, I see what looks like flange bindings, but different than mine. How do you do them?

    Enjoy Arizona!

Theresa, this is a link to the way I do my faux piping bindings. A couple of them may look different because my outside borders are the same as the 1-1/2" (not accent color) fabric. On the Fishy quilt, I think I made it 1-3/4 and 2" because the fleece and flannel made it thicker. This is a link to the binding: Faux Piping Binding

Thank you, Lois! I'm in Arizona until after Thanksgiving, but can look at the pattern when I get home. It was a 1/2Square triangle made with a triangle with the other 1/2 was pieced.

    Hi Lois,

Here is a link to the site I found the fish on. Fish blocks It didn't have a pattern, but I just treated the mouth part like a half-square triangle. I just cut a small template for the white part of the mouth and then made a square. If you enlarge some of her pictures, it's easier to see.

    Hi Lois,

Here is a link to where I found this fish quilt block Fish blocks

She didn't have a pattern listed, but I treated it like a half-square triangle square. I made a small template to get the white part of the mouth and added the color on both sides. If you enlarge her pictures, it's easy to see. Good luck if you give it a try!

Lois, just click here: Click here for the link

Houzz has changed how the links show up. In the previous post if you click on the "Fish blocks" it should have worked.

It worked for me too. It just didn’t look like a link to me, so I didn’t try it. Duh. Thanks, Sue.
