Did HVAC Technician Damage My Clogged Condensation Line?

last month
last modified: last month

A few days ago, my AC stopped working. The drip line was clogged.

I called my HVAC company and had my drain line cleared and it was really bad. The shop vacuum from the outside didn’t work.

The Technician brought this refrigerant inside, kept the tank in the shown position, and tried blowing it out from the inside.

That didn’t work, they tried from the outside…then hit it with hose water (from the outside) and it came loose. Eventually, they got it cleared and everything is working as expected now.

1. While I understand the refrigerant shouldn’t be used like this, could this be considered a normal “hack” in the HVAC practice?

2. Is there any risk that this damaged the PVC drip line running from the inside to the outside? Is the PSI on this higher than what should have been used?

3. Afterwards, I called and asked another the tech if this was normal and they said it was actually “better/safer” than nitrogen, since nitrogen can break/damage the PVC line from all the pressure. Is that true?

I think I realize this shouldn’t have happened, but now I’m trying to figure out if I should just move on and forget about it or get my system checked out by a new company.
