the second image that @Maureen shows above ^ a lighter piece would mimic the open stair.

A solid would look too bulky for your space.

A larger rug for your dining spot so the chairs are ON the rug when pulled away from the table. it appears too crowded.

The back of your island is large black rectangle. One is enough in the space. No black console. I vote for the oak. Lighter, disappears into the space a bit more, which is a good thing.

Agreeing with most comments above. Lighter color console much better for the space. Black would make black no longer the pop accent in the room but instead would make black dominate the room & also ”close” the room up. IMHO that is!

I don't like trying to match woods; I would want either a very different tone of wood, or a different colour (maybe black).

It appears the DR table, barstools, railing and chandelier are black. If so, adding a black console might be a bit much.

Where will the console table go? Also I love your dining room set up but a bigger rug would be better because then when people go to push their chair out it would stay on the rug

I do not think black and heavy looking is the answer. it looks like the DR chairs are almost like a loveseat so Iassume the pics are a bit skewed . That rug is too small BTW and any bigger will be atripping hazard so no rug . How about some glass on a console then a great piece of art above it to be enjoyed by the diners too. Do you need storage in thta space ? I think the walkway needs to still be quite large there so anything too deep is not going to work
