Board and Batten on exterior home uneven?

last month

our home is currently under construction. Im going over all the photos i took, and noticed the batten isnt symetrical, starting with the peak of the roof. the batten doesnt line up at all. every image ive seen of board and batten it is vertically even and evenly spaced out from top to bottom . Please tell me if this is acceptable or if you would have contractor re do it?

    What Mark said.

    Good B&B takes planning.

No one will notice the battens in the gable do not align with the battens on the wall below, but they may notice the gable battens not placed with respect to the center of it.

B&B today is usually simulated with sheets (4x8) applied to the wall, then battens applied over, so the size and spacing of the panels dictates the batten positions and spacing.

Check the batten spacing in the blue outline.

I don't understand what I'm seeing in the green outline.

The batten right under the porch roof doesnt line up to anything either , so im trying to figure out the best way to approach this.

So the back of our house is harder panels and the installer put it in fairly random and not according to the plan from the designer. It took me two years to notice and once I did o couldn’t under it but I now live with it. If it were the front of our house and something like your porch and the point I would raise it now and complain. Does not look good.

I asked my contractor about this and his response was ” The battenes have to cover the seams of the hardy sheets. It would be based on the truss members.“ so im not sure if thats how it has to stay or if something can be done. this is where i need someone with experience opinions/ideas on what my options are, if any?

    Ask the builder,

"What would it cost to install proper blocking behind the Hardy sheets so the battens in the gable were aligned with the peak of the gable at this point?"

    Optionally you can say,

"I asked an architect and he said the builder should have thought about the batten alignment in the gable before the framing of the gable started. It is piss poor planning and reflects poorly on the abilities of the builder. The builder should fix their error without extra expense to the owner."

    What does the drawings show?

Thank you Mark! well…. we decided not to put the faux window up at the peak and leave it blank. Now that you asked what the drawings show, i checked them and the batten is off in the drawings. so i guess it is my fault?

If I specify board & batten in a gable, I always show the batten locations at the peak or equally spaced from the peak. It is just the way I think it should be done. In your case, I think the builder and draftsman fell short of good design details.

See what your builder would charge you to change the batten alignment that would be in the best interest for you and your builder.

Count the battens in the gable on your elevation drawing and the way it was built.

Often drawings are a general idea of materials, and unless specifics are noted, like spacing and alignment, the details are left to the builder.

Also, the intent was clearly to have the shed roof go under the gable roof, and not intersect it.

Here is b&b in a house I built. The centering wasn't in the plans. (And the porkchop eaves were definitely not either!)
