Bitones and Bicolors of 2025

last month

Show us your bitones and bicolors from last season. Bitones have sepals a lighter shade of color than petals, and sepals on bicolors are a totally different color than the petals. Our next category will be patterned daylilies on Wednesday.

I used to have quite a few in this category, but last season I only had one. It's a bitone seedling out of Pink Aloha. It only shows as a bitone when temps are hotter.

That's a pretty one to have if you only have one. Those edges are so up my alley......I've only had a few bitones in my daylily lifetime and for some reason, in my garden, I end up not liking them. Maybe some day one will suit me............I look forward to seeing what everyone else has.............Maryl

That is a pretty one, Debra.

As I look through my flowers, looks like I used bitones & bicolors in other colors posts. I don't have that many, so here's a few.

    Allegheny Skyline

    Karen's Curls

Carmen Renee x VT the Last Melon bicolor

Carmen Renee x VT the Last Melon bitone

Carmen Renee x VT the Last Melon cerise bitone

    Laura Harwood x seedling

Brad, the Laura Harwood seedling is very pretty. I also like Karen's Curls.

We like bitones/bicolors here but I didn't get many photos last year.

    Sonoran Desert Rose

I may have already posted this one in the pink category, but I'll post it here. This is Chelle Belle, our 2026 intro. It is an offspring of Sonoran Desert Rose.

We hope this seedling will be an intro in a couple of years. This is Susan Ruoff X Fruitful Discovery.

I wasn't sure where to put the reverse bitones so I'll put them here. We have really gotten interested in the ones where the sepals are darker than the petals.

    Zowie Batman

    Olive's Odd One

    Sally Sullivan's Painting

This is a seedling from Bret Clement. He sold us a piece since he wasn't going to introduce it. We wanted it because we have started working on reverse bicolors.

    That's all for me.

Nancy, I really like your future intro, bitone and great edge.

Brad, love the Carmen Rene X Vt seedling.

my favorite bitone, Sea Dragon suffered a bit in the less than ideal season.

Ollalie Keith, a late bloomer. pardon the blurry photo, my only one.

    Night Flight, an unregistered daylily.

Luscious Kiss had a great season when most suffered here. It had most scapes with 15 buds, a great improvement for this small daylily.

Clown Parade is new here. Blooms were paler last season.

    Awesome Artist is getting established.

Stephanie Returns had a good season, very reliable.

Brad - I've always liked Karen's Curls. You have some pretty seedlings for this category.

Nancy - The reverse bitones are interesting. I really like Zowie Batman!

Sherry - I'm always a fan of Sea Dragon and Ollalie Keith. I think I prefer Clown Parade with the lighter coloring.

David - Evening Eyeshadow is always a delightful eye candy for me. Salty Skipper and Emma Tomlinson McHugh are faves too!

    Several nice blooms:

Nancy, I like that seedling you were given.

Sherry, Ollalie Keith and Night Flight are so pretty.

David, you have a bunch of nice looking ones, good for form and color. I love the rounded forms but don't have many and I don't know why.

Party Pinafore, Harem House, and Charlotte Roycroft, EMMA TOMLINSON MCHUGH, and TERESA A. MOSHER.

Just to add a few to the interesting ones already posted.

Boatwright's Sandhill Shine. Too early to judge this one; it can certainly be eyecatching. I hope it does not have the opening issues that the Moldovan line has.

Penguin's Prom can be quite showy. Not a 6-inch flower.

    Lacy Reinke catches the eye.

    Impassioned is a later bloomer.

Heavenly Bombshell has somewhat lighter sepals.

That Boatwright bloom is wonderful. I hope it does well. not opening well is such a disappointment.

SANDHILL SHINE is one that I have considered getting. I will look forward to your future reports on it's performance.
