Had this in my cart earlier today. Wonder how long before I regret taking it out of the cart?

I love my sambas. I have the traditional white with black stripes. When I first got them, one of them rubbed on the back of my foot giving me a blister but they are fine now. Probably my favorite sneaker.

    I just ordered these:

I have a sneaker weakness. I had a really cute pair of pink sneakers but they were a 1/2 size too small. I donated them and need another pair.

I also just got the Spanx velvet turtleneck. Haven't tried it on yet. Hoping it fits. Might wear it to my retirement dinner in NYC on Thursday.

I also placed another Spanx order because the sale was just too good to pass up (add'l 40% off the sale price). I hope the jeans fit because they are final sale.

Ohhh @jsk can I talk you into trying on the velvet turtleneck? I have it in my cart but was waiting for reviews to come in .. still none and the sale ends tonight.

No worries if you don't. I had already walked away from ordering it .. was just a little concerned that the neck runs snug.

    @Funkyart just for you --

It's hard to tell in pic because top is black, but I don't think the neck is tight at all. For me it's the perfect amount of slouchy for a turtleneck. Not tight but not too loose either. The top itself does fit tight but it doesn't feel like it's clinging to me, and I don't think it will show any rolls. I really like it.

Excuse the no makeup, uncombed hair and baggy sweatpants. The weather here today is yucky and I just threw on baggy sweatpants and a big sweatshirt after my workout to feel cozy. Not leaving the house. Shower to come later.

Thank you sooo much! It looks great on you!

I knew it was not generous through the body -- and glad to hear the neck is good. What about length? I think I am still on the fence.

I did like the Landsend turtlenecks .. not quite the turtlenecks of my youth but I like them.

I did get another set of all-weather (silicone) bracelets from Poshmark. I have a necklace that doesnt really work with any of my other silver bracelets. These will be perfect ...

Mine are the darker silver below...

to go with this necklace .. the photo doesnt showcase the design all that well. The arrowhead is covered in pave diamonds.

The length is to about the top of my hips I think. Not cropped, but not long either.

I have silver bracelets that look just like that. Mine are a knock off brand. I've had them a few years. Don't remember where I got them. I love them. So comfortable to wear and don't set off the metal detector at the airport.

    Pretty necklace!

The turtleneck would probably work (I'd go up a size) ... but I just bought another cashmere cardigan and with that came the promise to myself that I'd not get anything else. No timeframe on the promise.. but thinking I will give it at least a week! Maybe even until Christmas.

I agree.. these bracelets are so easy to wear .. they dont clank or bang on my keyboard. They are the only bracelets I can wear all day without removing after a few hours at the computer. These arent knockoffs but they are NWOT and half the cost on the BG site.

    Thanks again, Jsk!

I have the Gaspard cardigan — the one the reviewer did not like. I like mine! Yes, it is a little itchy (I have a very low tolerance for itchy sweaters) but, hello, it is a cardigan so you’re meant to wear something under it! However, my Jenny Kayne cardigans are softer, less itchy, and otherwise very similar. (Oh, and more than twice the price. I got mine on sale.)

Re the sneaker….Sambas didn’t feel good on my feet. Maybe it’s the men/women’s sizing and my ceazy foot shape, I don’t know. DD has a similar problem with them but recently bought the Addidas Spezial in a darker brown and they look great on her. I think this is the color. She wore them on TG day and said they were comfy.

Huge photo, sorry. From Nordstrom website, but plenty of other vendors carry it

My fave sneakers lately are Reef Neptunes and AllBirds with the wool footbed. I forget what they are called. I also have a pair of black wool Allbirds from last year that i really like even for rainy days. Not heavy rain but they are warm. My first pair of Allbirds were worn off and on for 2 weeks in Italy with no issues on uneven surfaces. Theew them in the washer when we got home and they looked nearly new.

Has anyone ordered jeans from Quince? I am having a terrible time finding anything I like. I don’t care for a very heavy denim. Part of me wants to try a pair of wide leg jeans (but not too wide) but i’m not sure that is really for me. Then there is the question of what length to buy. I have one pair of jeans right now that fit well and are pretty much perfect. They are a straight leg, sort of an ankle jean I guess, by Mother. Quince has a good return policy and reasonable price so thought i might try a couple of pair if they are still in stock.

Ive been buying jeans at JCrew when they are on sale. ypu have to try them on because sizing - even same size/style varies. Hence the comment ”when they are on sale”.

I got the brown adidas specialz for niece last christmas. They were very pretty.. but the fit wasnt great for her -- pretty sure she sold them on PM. IIRC they run large and wide.

Dont have the Sezane cashmere but I also have the Jenni Kayne Hayes cardigan .. it is not as soft as I expected for the retail price (I got mine on sale too) but it doesnt bother me at all. I love the sweaters ... in fact, I am cold. I am going to go grab one now. I have natural and gray.

I continue to be a fan of the BR boyfriend cardi .. I bought mine oversized and the length works for me (though it might not if I hadnt sized up). It is a nice weight for the weather and I have been wearing it tons ... I should note that it has started pilling. :( I need to take a shaver to it. I did order another in black that should arrive today.

Funky, you’ve inspired me to drag out a boyfriend cardigan that I bought for the color but never liked. Maybe I need to give it another chance.

Love the coat, Mtn. And what a steal!

Saw this picture of the Duchess of Essex and immediately thought ”well, you can tell she isn’t part of our group!” We would never have let her wear that sport watch with formal wear. Where are her imaginary friends? Does she have no one to guide her? Should we send an invitation for her to join us?

No, but we may need sashes!

Mtn, that coat looks great on you! And perfect timing!

Bbstx .. I done normally like BF sweaters but this one just works for me. Hope you end up liking yours... but if not, would a button change help? The boring buttons are often one of my biggest complaint with them.

Unrelated to this thread .. but it isnt worthy of a new thread: SO and I were looking for where I could get a small container of saffron and a bag of paella rice when I am in Minneapolis. Not that it will be hard but still.. we scoped it out and in the process I learned that there is a World Market in the area! I have never been to one-- and yeah, I get that it is likely going to be a cross between a pier one and ikea lol .. but I am very excited. I mean, so many here have talked about it. Jilly just mentioned it the other day. I am looking forward to seeing what it is all about. That said, I have a little fear that it will be like the excitement of going to South of the Border on the way to FL. All my friends talked about it like it was the Best. Thing. Ever. And when we arrived, I was like .. huh? THIS is what everyone got so excited about???

Does anyone even know what I am talking about? Now I am wondering if SotB was just a Central PA stop on the drive to Florida.

LOVE that coat Mtn, and you look great in it! Perfect color, length and style, and a great deal—- yay!

Bbstx, Sophie is definitely the best looking royal of the lot. Maybe her sport watch has an actual sapphire face that goes with her bracelet, necklace, tiara and earrings, lol. She is dripping with diamonds and sapphires and actually chose a gown that would set them off to their best advantage. Some of them dress like they are color blind— or in Kate’s case, 30 years older than her age. 🤷‍♀️

Funky, lower your expectations re World Market and you’ll be fine!

  • yesterday

I love WM! Partly because the closest one is not that close to me, so I have only been maybe 3 times. The food/wine section is so interesting. I have always found a dish towel or fabric napkins, at least, and some tea or coffee. Just fun to browse. I like it better than Pier One (RIP).

Back in the day when we drove through the night to HHI, South of the Border was a bathroom break/change drivers spot. It is in the top 5 of the tackiest places on earth, but at 2 am it was open and the bathrooms were usually clean. Now when I drive to HHI and pass SotB in the daytime (and never stop bc we haven't been driving all night), there are maybe 5 cars there and I wonder how does it stay open?

Like Sueb said, World Market is more Pier One-ish, not SotB-ish. Lots of fun and interesting things. I love the watercolor tree plates Sueb shared, but I DO NOT NEED ANY MORE STUFF. But they would look pretty on the table in my dark blue DR.

When I was a kid, we stopped at SotB on our way from CT to GA, because of course we always drove everywhere. Somewhere there is a picture of me, around age 10, with the sign. And also sitting on a giant rooster? Was that there too?

Haha funky, I think we drove there in a Chevy Malibu. We had only one station wagon, which was butter yellow, no panels, which of course happened to be when I was 16 so that is the car I was allowed to drive. I was super cool.

We drove there in a conversion van. no wood on the sides. IDT we have any photos, but we still use silly expressions and phrases that happened at that spot.

After we bought the HHI place, my friends used it next. When I returned for a visit, they had the kitchen table set with SotB placemats, coasters, mugs, and a Pedro statue/bank as a joke. They must have spent $75 on that junk! But I use the placemats to cover the laundry room shelf. And Pedro still sits on the wine rack. IDK what happened to the mugs, maybe they're in a cabinet.

Years later, those same friends replaced a framed photo, in the primary bedroom, with one of their dog. It was a delightful surprise. And is still there 16 years later.

It’s cold and rainy here and I am taking my mother out to lunch and to shop for the grandchildren afterwards. The OOTD is based on my trusty waterproof Coach driving shoes, with brown ponte slacks from Anne Klein, Sezane ruffle neck blouse and a plaid wool blazer from Talbot’s. Nothing is new or notable but all is comfortable. I don’t know how I could get by without these shoes!

One time the female of the couple couldn’t join me on a girls trip to HHI. I took photos of Pedro all over the island, searching for her, including on the plane home. The pilot was a good sport and posed holding Pedro in the cockpit.

Quick question: DH and I have a neighborhood holiday party tonight. I’ve been planning to wear a black sweater dress with black riding boots, and a black watch ruana wrap. DH just told me he’s going to wear jeans, a white dress shirt, and a black watch dinner jacket.

Is that too much black watch for one couple?!

    bbstx thanked porkandham
  • yesterday

Not too much black watch! I highly doubt anyone will even notice, unless you have a daughter who still lives at home. 😁

Porkand Ham, there can never be too much Black Watch plaid on anyone. Your outfits sound perfect and perfectly complementary. I remember your ruana and it is gorgeous!

(I wore Black Watch welvet jeans to a Christmas party yesterday and felt very festive indeed. 🎄 DH has black watch wool slacks and won’t wear them on the pretext that they are too snug. Hmpf. )

Finally got a couple of new items for my casual, low-key holiday look. Wearing this blouse and coated denim to a small party tonight. I don't own coated jeans, but I really like the fit on these. They are full length on me which I am okay with but may get them altered to look closer to the cropped length shown.

@bbstx - hard to go wrong with black pants and a top! Part of my uniform as well. I also purchased this black silk dupioni shirt to go with a pair of black slim cropped pants for a holiday open house next week.

Subtle but the dupioni makes it look a bit more luxe and works both nice casual as shown and dressier. I will be traveling so things have to do double duty. I actually think the brown coated denim jeans will also prove to be versatile. I think my wardrobe is a little smaller and less diverse (and more boring!) than many of you fashionistas.

I have a North Face parka that is several years old. It replaced a North Face parka that was exactly the same, except the original was black and the second one was dark green. The zipper has been finicky this year, and I was literally trapped in my coat at the dr’s office yesterday and ended up having to take it off over my head. I have spent a stupid amount of time looking for a new coat, one that is warm and long enough to cover my bum but not TOO long, etc etc etc…long story short, I ended up buying the same coat again, in black. Oh well, these jackets fit, they’re warm, and they are less bulky than the the typical down coats.

    So exciting.

But of course I had to also get a new scarf and mittens and hat, and since my current purse for the season is burgundy, I decided to get myself all color coordinated. I think this scarf and gloves are cute.

And I got this hat. These CC hats are very inexpensive and are the only hats I have that fit my fat head and don’t give me tragic hathead.

And I used Amex points to pay for almost everything!
