My brother had a decorative cork wall in childhood. It looked great for years, but too many pushpins, too heavy things pinned to it caused it to deteriorate. My father also had a bookshelf that was a thin plywood panel over cork, but you could use another insulating material. You saw the wood (it was attractive plywood) not the cork.

I think the cork is a bit casual. I would consider the upholstered wall panels they sell on Amazon. I think they look a bit more upscale.

I haven't seen any cork walls lately but can imagine they've advanced some since the 1980's kind :) If you're concerned with sound acoustics, then perhaps consider wood wall panels.
