Beautiful set! A green fabric in the same shade as the green painted squares on the table would add some colour and pull it together.

I was hoping for something not solid as my DH is a little messy an solid colors show food drops, LOL

Fun furniture! Very European looking. Would a medium gingham in the green shade look too matchy-matchy? It’s the first thing that comes to mind. As for DH. scotchguard is your new BFF.

No plaid but how about the green already there I have no idea how any checkered fabric would be good you have enough going on a nice simple fake leather in a soft green if DH is messy or even an indoor outdoor fabric but no pattern IMO

Wrong! It's not your "Look" P.C.

It a maximalist versus minimalist. Any of them can work. She doesn't want a plain, and for what she wants? She can go just a little "crazy"

I'd do either of these in a heartbeat ..

Why? You don't even buy this type of set at all unless you love the "Not plain" : ) look.

I love the green plaids that have been suggested. They go well with the furniture motifs.

You can have your fabric laminated with a vinyl coating to make it easy to wipe off. For example, Calico Corners in my area will do it, so check with your local upholsterer. You can also buy laminated fabric, ready to use, online.

For that matter, you can use upholstery plastic, and go over any fabric with a second "coat". You can tile on a plastic seat cover. You can drape a kitchen towel over messy DH, and his chair seat.. You can buy an extra yard and change out the gross seat, twice.: )

We had same issue with grandchildren ( especially when eating pasta with a red sauce ). We ordered stretchable dining chair seat covers off Temu site. I was skeptical due to the low price & the fact that I’ve never ordered anything from that site, but they worked perfectly. Either that or have the fabric laminated or, as Jan suggested, throw a kitchen towel over it , that’s what we did before getting the covers.

Love all the fabrics. Here is a better picture of my aesthetics

You have the idea, I could have easily guessed your aesthetic. Pick one! : )

My favorite of all shown is the black? one with the flower that has a touch of pink Who makes that? My kitchen cabinets are very dark almost black so it would tie that all in.

Select a Moss Green texture fabric and spray it with Scotch Guard to help keeping it clean.

And or purchase the inexpensive plastic seat covers from Amazon for your chairs.

Suggest using medium shades to complement the wood‘s tone (spray with a protector and also add a temporary cover on your husband’s chair). I wouldn’t go overboard on the green; pull in some surrounding shades (ie: black cabinets and red in living room).

The set has a rustic French Country feel with its curves especially and I think the set will feel very unique if this is played up.

If you’d like more green, consider incorporating with art.

@Lainey Stern …. good thing, if you buy that fabric ( dark background ) very few messes will show on that & if there is, I’m sure-it can be cleaned off. BTW, I like your roosters :) Your new set is not my style but I think it’s great! Your wine goblets, wow!

The set wasn’t my style at the time we saw it , we bought a dining room table and chairs first and walked into the kitchen where this was. She gave us such a great deal we couldn’t pass it up. It has grown on me but changed the whole direction I was heading to. Our living room is yellow and blue but you don’t see it from this area. The wine glasses you like are Dansk

When reupholstering dining chairs, choose a material that balances durability, comfort and easy maintenance. if they’re treated with a performance finish , they repel stains and clean easily.

For a busy kitchen, a medium‑toned performance fabric: moss green, charcoal or a subtle plaid, will hide spills and coordinate with your dark cabinetry

Can we see the rest of the space? The living room?

I wouldn't spend too much money on that table and chairs. The design was trendy and it's more than 20 years old and shows it. It's a bit 'cute'.

I think the table and chairs re charming. Here are some ideas for fabric for the seats.

You said you love it and that is all that matters. I like Jan's dark flowery fabrics and Red's boxwood for the seats more than the plaids-imo the dark is a good contrast to the furniture and won't show the drips. Should be easy to recover those.

    I agree--the furniture is a welcome change from gray/transitional/blah.

Please post an update when you are ready. These are fun pieces.

It looks like the chair pads are easy to separate from the frame. All you need is a staple gun, another pair of hands and fabric. Looking forward to the updates.

Whatever you decide for chairs, buy many large 100% cotton napkins and use them every meal. Easy to wash, fold, repeat.

I like the plaids that Jan posted. I think that set is quirky and fun!

I love the table and chairs. Its so nice to see pictures when someone actually has something wonderful to look at. I love the plaid and the darker flowered fabric, that Jan posted.

    Someone mentioned napkins

For what it's worth? Don't have them made! Your best friend for size, stain release and all else,,,,,100% cotton dish towels.

They will cover hubby's lap, yours too. Stains. for whatever reason,, come out easily.

Not terry cloth...just nice cotton that complements chair seats.

It’s extremely easy to recover, I have chairs exactly like this pretty much and the seats just unscrew and then all you need is fabric and a staple gun. However you may not be handy.

I wouldn’t use the plastic …ugh… but you can buy seat covers that tie on that you can throw in the wash and that would be the route I would go if you have young kids around. Then reupholster at a later point. Or not.

There’s a lot of variety with these I’m not familiar with how well the stretch ones work. The ones that tie only at the back tend to not stay in place all that well in my experience. If you have a particular chair that’s used only by little kids you could use the plastic and just bring it out when they are visiting. I confess I haven’t read all the details here. Plastic is fine in the winter but in the summer it’s quite unpleasant to sit on with bare legs. Also slippery for little kids.
