Anybody grow Royal Welcome, J&P (Zary, 2016)?

Royal Welcome is advertised by J&P as being, "exceptionally disease resistant," which is right up my alley. I'm thinking of giving it a try, but before I take the plunge, I would like to get as much info on Royal Welcome as I can beforehand. Any word, yes or no, is appreciated.

I’ve not grown Royal Welcome, but a similarily colored Pim Lim rose is Love & Peace, it is reputed to have very good disease resistance. The half open bloom is striking but as with many yellow/red blends, the blooms age like a bad pizza accident.

Keith Zary has bred some spectacular varieties.

Golden Zest…a larger, longer lasting bloom than every yellow Austin.

One more day of, 'no-shows,' at this post, and I think this rose inquiry deserves a, 'Royal Good-bye'. Too bad. I thought its, 'exceptionally disease resist,' claim would peak somebody's interest. I suppose it's too much fruitcake and ginned up gingerbread men at this time! 🎅🤶

I've had it for several years now. I don't remember the last time it bloomed. It's still only a foot tall and barely hanging on year after year. I don't think it's a good cold weather rose. Good disease resistance though!

Matt, you saved the day. I was hoping Royal Welcome was an overlooked sleeper. Your experience with it makes me take thought about getting it...especially with freight included, I'm looking at shelling out $60.00 or thereabouts. That's for a rose that seems to have made it out of the starting gate good, but possibly just fizzled out after that.

I had similar experience to Matt’s. I planted it April 2021 and shovel pruned it May 2022. The blooms were beautiful, but it declined tremendously. My notes indicate that Royal Welcome grew good that first season, but took a big hit with winter. No notes about blackspot.

The only Zary rose I've ever grown, Sweetness, was a total dud in this climate, zone 7, hot and dry. It couldn't take the heat and bloomed very little. And the shovel disposed of Sweetness after a couple of years. Shovels are not sweet-heh. Very lovely bloom, Kentucky Rose. Diane

In further defense of Zary's roses, I'll say that I grow (and have grown) a lot of them happily over the years. I just did a quick perusal of my data base. In addition to the ones Ben posted above, I'll add some of my faves (I wish I had some or better pics of them): Pure Poetry, Fame, Diana Princess of Wales, Fabulous, Bee's Knees, Artistry, and some pics

PJPII is one of my top 10 favorite roses to grow. My Artistry is prob 25+ years old and last summer was its best year. Sweetness does good, but thrips mess up blooms seems like half of season. Gemini is one of my favorites, but I don’t have any luck growing it and I’ve tried multiple times. Some roses are meant to be admired from afar.

SWEETNESS around May 24th this year. I don’t recall it ever being that loaded. I almost shovel pruned it earlier because the thrips damage to the blooms throughout the past years, but it had robust growth this spring and I just couldn’t remove it.
