Kate Winslet and 2 ah-ha moments

last month

Ist moment was recently having to drive to a medical appt in Portland during rush hour traffic on two separate freeways in the rain with darkness soon to set in. Not something I relish. Well, it suddenly occured to me to ask Siri on my car GPS for directions without using freeways. It had simply never crossed my mind that I could do that. I just went where she told me to go. Well, she got me there on the much preferred highways instead. Perfect. ah-ha. (I have my Siri set with a British accent, sounds just like Kate Winslet. It's kind of fun).

2nd moment was that I was noticing Pooky, my cat, literally RUNNING AWAY from her food dish!! Highly unusual. She loves to eat. Yikes! It must be a bad tooth. Vet had no openings, we would need to go to an urgent care far away, for lots of $$. Well, after some experimenting, it looks like she just absolutely HATES the "weight control" food we were trying out. So much for that! ah-ha.

Aw Pooky, I feel your pain.

I try to find a route with the fewest, or no, tolls. The highway tolls in Pennsylvania are highway robbery. Love the idea of a British accent. I just wish google maps would speak a little louder.

My cats are loving Churu treats! Cats are NUTS! Their behavior is unexpected at best!

Poor Pooky! She looks a lot like my kitty Katya, who we sadly had to have put to sleep recently, after her kidneys failed :-(

Our remaining cat, Nadia, is very wary of the new overhead fan we had installed in the lounge room. It's beginning summer here and it's very hot already, so we've been turning it on in the evenings while we watch TV. Nadia usually runs away for a while, then we coax her back in but she slinks in and then keeps casting nervous glances at the fan.

Mila has been running from her food, but I know why. I've had to give her antibiotics and I want to give them to her with food, so that's where it's easiest to grab her ... or it was until she figured it out!

But here's an aha! I didn't know you could change Siri's accent!

@Annie Deighnaugh...yeah. It's kind of fun. I had the folks at ATT set it up. I also had David Bowie"s "Starman" as my ring tone for a while. That was fun too.

It may vary from phone to phone but if you touch the Search icon on your iPhone and then say "Change Siri Voice", it will take you to the right place.

(I find IT voices and Siri in particular annoying. I have all such things turned off- including for the GPS functions of Google Maps and the built in GPS guidance in my car. I know many like to use them. I can still do voice to text for messaging and emails, and voice searches for GPS directions and other things. It can listen to me, I don't want to listen to it)

Im bumping this to add to the vet issue. The vet that I love, and have used for decades, and that I was hoping she could quickly look to see if Pooky had an oral/ dental problem, is out for osteopedic surgery recovery. Fine. So the secondary vet is only there two days a week, and doesn't have an opening until mid January. So, they are almost closed down. Nor could an alternative vet office see her. It's just so different than it used to be. I certainly dont begrudge her surgery, of course not. But it's kind of disapointing that a better plan B couldn't be available.

My town has the same malady in regards to medical. We can't get MD's to move out here, as the better place for them $$ wise is in Portland. I don't begrudge them for that either. It looks like we might be heading towards a "bedroom community" status. It's all kind of weird.
