HELP-paint color for home interior - Swiss Coffee or Simply White

last month

Hi, we are doing some remodeling and need to choose a paint for our home. It was darker colors in the past and we would like to go with a soft white/greige throughout the house (aside from possibly bathrooms/bedrooms). Any recommendations appreciated!

We have swiss coffee as our trim/doors now, if we go with that throughout the house, what do we do on doors/trim?

Also, is there another color that is recommended. Attaching a couple of 'before' pictures (don't look at decor, different now)

    From Kylie M's blog":

"If you’re painting your walls Swiss Coffee, I highly recommend painting your TRIM Swiss Coffee. Because Swiss Coffee has unpredictable undertones, I wouldn’t mess around too much with mixing and matching whites with it.

If you’d rather see some contrast and are okay with Swiss Coffee looking more like a subtle cream, consider Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace or Simply white."

Seeing pics of your space, I think it would look best without contrasting trim color no matter what wall color you select. Your trim is minimal and not something that needs to be light lighted in such a modern space.

I notice how much green is reflected off your ceiling from the garden. I'm curious if the same will be true for green reflection on whiter walls and how that might change the color you select. I'd go with a very flat paint to reduce reflection.

Kendrah, thank you for your feedback. The trim is really in the hallways where there are doors etc. We did put a sample on the wall, but probably need a bigger one to ensure the green from outside doesn't affect it, very good point! Is there another white or very light greige you would use instead if there is a lot of green reflection? Thanks again!

You already have a white ceiling and Swiss Coffee (frames, doors, etc.), so I agree with Kendra – there's no need to introduce another shade of white. You can paint the walls Swiss Coffee, or be prepared to repaint everything a different white – for example, Alabaster from Sherwin-Williams.

However, I would consider satin/silk or even gloss rather than matte walls. Let the reflections of the green garden penetrate as much as possible into the house—they are beautiful reflections, and green complements your flooring. Shades of green can also be used in furniture, decor, and textiles.

The only place to test ANY white, any paint color actually, is your home. In your light, and that will change in the seasons...by time of day.

Simply white is notoriously "green" .. There is really no need to highlight trim, beyond a change in sheen level - from matte on walls, to satin on trim. Same white.

I think the less "traditional" in style you are? The more true that is and UNLESS wallpaper, or trim that is so great it demands more emphasis? Sheen change will do it.

" Decor is different now"......? Is it a factor? Depends. We can't see it : )

Swiss Coffee no brainer unless you love painting trim IMO since the decor is now different who knows how to help. I always suggest you buy sample can of and 2 large poster boards apint those 2 cots of each thenmove those around all over the place to see how they look in all kinds of light and that is how you test colors . The fact is you had dark colors so testing on your walls will not give you a true look. UNless your trim is something very special no need to jihghtlight it just matte on walls satin on trim and done .
