How accurate is the colour? Could it just be the straight species, Lagerstroemia indica? It's hard to see the twigs, but, given what appears to be sooty mold on the leaves, I wonder if there's a scale problem.

I'm thinking like floral -- looks like a straight species. Ones at my home that were there before we moved there in the mid-1960s had that flower color. As regards to it not flowering lately, I don't know. It looks reasonably healthy (and fairly old) but w/some sooty mold as mentioned, which along w/powdery mildew can be common on crape ms. Your location might help......

Just update the description and removed the photo of the leaves with the mold because that was last year and it didn't happen again this year.

When you shop 'Species' crepe myrtle, look for the mature size of the new tree.

Your tree, being 15-20 years old is at its mature height so you can use that height of yours for a match.

Just for some examples:

Dwarf Varieties: 3-6 feet tall (e.g., 'Pocomoke', 'Pinky').

Medium Varieties: 8-15 feet tall (e.g., 'Miami', 'Sioux').

Large Varieties: 20-30+ feet tall (e.g., 'Natchez', 'Muskogee', 'Twilight').

And just because your tree is however many feet tall, it will continue to grow, albeit more slowly, for a number of years to come. So, you may want to take that into consideration when you buy a new tree.

A trees width can become variable, considering how many hours of full sun it gets during the day. Another consideration.

I have two Crape Myrtles. Neither have the beautiful bark that I remember from the tree our neighbor had in my childhood. As far as being multi-trunk, I think all Crape Myrtles can do that. You have to train it yourself, unless you buy a mature tree.

I have read good things about the cultivar Miami, in regards to bark. Keep in mind, the attractive, peeling and duo coloring of the bark does not happen until the tree is a bit mature. I think that is why my two trees are so drab.
