How many buffets and AV consoles in a room/space is too much?

last month

We have two contemporary leather sofas, a coffee table and a buffet in a room. We need to "house" our AV equipment. The buffet doesn't have sufficient room, so we are considering purchasing a AV console. The space would then have a buffet table behind a sofa and a AV audio piece in approximately a 13 x 15' space with a large patio slider (which makes the space feel larger). Does it that sound too loaded with boxy pieces for that amount of space?

Well we need a to scale plan. pics of the pieces you are talking about. What stuff needs to be stored and why ? Storage is always a big issue but trying to find solutions is even bigger . IMO the more odd pieces in a space the more cluttered it looks . I use Besta from IKea for many spaces where storage is a huge issue . The pieces can be put together so thta it looks custom for exactly what YOU need stored .

it depends on the layout. Photos would help.

Do the sofas match? is the TV mounted on the wall? a 13' x 15' room is tight for two big sofas, and a large patio slider how many people do you need to seat?

No pictures, no answer. Better a drawing with all dimensions AND pictures. Until then it is AS ABOVE : )

AV equipment becomes obsolete in a few years. Plan to change your AV set up when technology changes. That is, buy AV storage that can be replaced easily without breaking the bank every 3, 5 or 7 years.

It sounds like a tight squeeze, but a lot of it depends on how bulky the lines of your sofas and buffets are. Leather MCM sofas with slender arms and legs and stream lined buffets could result in a room with enough visual space. Super chunky puff daddy leather sofas? No way will it look good.

Av equipment can go in closet. I'd also delete the buffet. Live with the minimum for 6 weeks and then think about additions.

AV storage cannot always go in the closet and will only be obsolete if you change your set up. I think it is common for many homes to have a console plus a storage unit for components. It really would be helpful to have photos though as we are all guessing

What AV components are being considered?

Update: the room is about 17’6 x 15. It spills into the kitchen. The area rug is a 10 x 14. The two sofas are 88 x 34 x 36, the buffet is 71 x 30x 18. The audio equipment includes a cs player, receiver, turntable, amp, dvd player, and a cassette player (yes, a cassette player). We can keep the recliners or lose them in this space.

I can see why you need the AV storage. Seems like a labour of love. As such i would get a new buffet that will allow for storing the AV equipment appropriately and displaying it somewhat too. Your pictures don’t really show the wall space well or the places where the current buffet is compared to other items. Can you draw a floor plan?

    Does this help?

Someone suggested moving the photographed buffet behind a sofa in place of the two recliners and then find two smaller sitting chairs for against the three windows with a table in between. We would then have the two sofas at a right angle to each other, one with a buffet behind, and two armchairs in the grouping, plus an AV console against the large wall. I hope that helps.

Yes way better now to visualize! I think you just need one different buffet. I would not get an additional furniture piece

Some assemble AV equipment to be visible impactful, others go for function. These don't contribute by being on display. They can go behind doors, except for the record player. A closet or choose accordingly.
