I would do two area rugs, a lot of space to minimize noise.

How wide is the room? is that a patio door at the end of the room? How nautical? do you live by the Sea? do you sail?

We need a bit more info please . The size of the room and ideally a to scale floor plan showing windows , doorways and all measurements clearly marked . A pic of the sofa is good. Post the plan here in jpeg format in a comment .

If this is where you will eat all your meal, then I wouldn't do a rug under the table.

I have a rug in my formal dining room, but not in my breakfast area that we use everyday.

If noise is an issue, then a rug under the table might make sense.

thank you for all if your comments The room is about 24 by 12 i would prefer no rug u nder table if could find good pads so floor would not be scratched the patio door faces the ocean so looking for a nauticsl look but we do not sail wouod like a small bar height bistro for two in front of slider yes that light fixture is too small whete dining table wouid be looking yo change that out this is the couch but will be with slipcovers

They sell round felt pads that stick to the bottom of the chair legs. They do have to be replaced once in a while. You can also get larger rectangular sticky felt pads that you can cut to size if you have odd shaped furniture legs.

The pic of the sofa tells me nothing. I will never understand the need for nautical decor because you are on the ocean . Did you love that decor before ? Where is the kitchen , where is the pic of the patio door too much missing info really. Do you need a TV in here for instance .

When you say you want a nautical look, do you mean kitschy or classic. Nautical means so many things in design. Show us some of your inspiration.
