Weird question about dogs, crates, carpet, and carpet protection

last month
last modified: last month

We have 2 dogs and have their sleeping crates in our bedroom which has wood floors so we just have a pad under the crates. Over the years they have started snoring at night and we can't sleep! For the time being we started sleeping upstairs in the guest room til we figure out what to do. We want to reclaim our main bedroom. We have determined that since our Navy son can't come home often, his old room is best for the new "crate room." There will still be room for the bed, but we'll have to move a dresser and desk which is fine. When he does come home he can use the more comfy guest room anyway.

But my question really is: There's really good quality, new, light colored carpet in there. What type of carpet-covering material can I lay down under the crates to protect the carpet from indentations from the crates and in case there is a pee or poo accident that might happen?

They're not puppies prone to accidents, but just in case, what material can I put down just in case? Like a fabric painting/construction tarp?
