Trying to locate this specific turtle canvas art

last month

I saw this very large art piece at a store in Sarasota, Florida in 2021 (framed) and in 2022 (unframed). Our daughter was in love with it but it did not fit in her home at the time. She has now moved to a new home and it would be perfect there. The Sarasota store is unable to help; they have told us they cannot remember where they sourced it (they have changed suppliers) nor the name of the artist. I have tried everything online to attempt to locate it but have come up empty. I want this particular piece, not just any turtle art. I would love it if anyone on this site recognizes it and can point us in the right direction to purchase it. Thank you!

Two Turtles by artist Patrick Sullivan.

Since we saw it two separate times in different formats, I don't think the art we saw was the original. Since it was expensive, I'm guessing it was reproduced potentially by the artist?

Cathi, can you send me a link to the Two Turtles art by Patrick Sullivan? When I queried that, the photo is not the one I'm seeking.

Sadly, Google lens can't find an exact match.

Yes, I've done all the online searching - Google lens, ChatGPT, Claude.AI, etc. I'm just hoping someone, possibly in the Florida market, knows something.

It might just be too much time has passed to expect the canvas to be in the vendors line of images.

If you're looking for coastal wall decor it might be better to not be so very literal in the subject matter.

Of course. Since the store was willing but unable to help, that is why I'm trying other options to try to locate it. I'm not seeking just any coastal wall decor, I am literally seeking that specific piece of art. Because I live in Florida and know there are many talented designers and artists that frequent this site, I thought it was worth a try.

I spent 45 minutes trying to find the image through any sources I had and couldn't

    Thank you for trying!

Unfortunately most of these canvases that show up in decor stores are all mass produced, most likely in China.

Check the local art shows that take place during the winter season in your area to find a unique piece and support an artist!

Check art periodically on Facebook Marketplace in the areas where you saw the piece in-store. It may eventually show up for sale.

I know she's disappointed but it's probably a blessing in disguise she didn't buy it. The store owner probably didn't want to admit it was an inexpensive mass produced piece that they are marking up a thousand times. I put the image in ChatGPT and here's what it found. (BTW, love how Chat humanizes itself...I looked...)

It might turn up at a thrift store some day or as suggested, Facebook Markeplace. Hope you find it.

    ChatGPT:

I looked into this, and here’s what I can tell you with reasonable confidence.

This painting is a mass-produced decorative artwork, not a unique gallery piece. It is commonly sold under generic titles like “Swimming Sea Turtles” or “Abstract Sea Turtles” and appears in multiple online marketplaces with no single credited fine artist.

    What the sources indicate

    • The same image appears across Wayfair, Overstock, Amazon, and HomeGoods–style retailers, often listed as:

      • Framed Canvas Wall Art – Sea Turtles

      • Coastal Abstract Turtle Painting

    • Listings typically credit it to:

      • “Unknown artist”

      • “Design Studio”

      • or a licensing/printing company, not an individual painter.

    • The style (textured vertical brush strokes, cool coastal palette, paired turtles) is characteristic of licensed décor art produced for interior retail, especially circa 2018–2023.

    Likely origin

    This work was almost certainly:

    • Originally painted by a commercial studio artist

    • Then licensed and reproduced at scale

    • Distributed by home décor manufacturers rather than galleries

Because of this, there is no authoritative single “source” or artist attribution available publicly .

How to trace the exact distributor (if needed)

If you want to pin down the specific vendor:

    • Check the back of the frame or canvas for:

      • SKU numbers

      • Importer names

      • “Made for” labels

    • Search those numbers directly — they often lead to the original wholesaler.

I had already gone the AI route a couple of different ways with the photo of the art included. It's always fascinating to see how ChatGPT gives different responses to inquiries.

@jkmccon So true. One more reason to use it with great caution.
