Bringing Colocasia out of dormancy in the later winter

I need your wisdom and experience regarding "re"starting Colocasia in the later winter

I dug up large corms for several plants after them being outside all summer. They have been stored in paper in a dark cooler location indoors all winter. When I pot them up indoors in Feb/March, getting a head start on putting them outside in May I am always unsure re watering prior to seeing any sign of life.

When I pot them up, it would be into damp potting mix and then putting the pots in a sunny window and or on a heating mat.

So given what I have described, do I need to water prior to seeing any greenery? If so, how and when? My concern as always is over watering, especially when there is no sign of life.

Maybe until then I would just mist the surface of the soil....weekly?

(I was successful a couple of seasons ago bringing a Colocasia out of dormancy but I dont recall what I did re watering. And last year I was unsuccessful and digging it up later the corm was rotted...my fault).

I am looking forward to hearing your tried and true experiences with this plant..
