Picked up 3 NWOT breakfast bar stools today. My Bargain...& yours?

last modified: 24 days ago

My island counter stools just were NOT working...

DH & I ran into the thrift store, having seen 3 stools a week ago...hoping they were still there.......purchased them today. There are soooooooooooo many choices.

1) These were the right height, counter height & they swivel

2) No arms hitting the counter, I can push them under the island

3) The last ones were fabric, the cats kept "bothering them". Vinyl seats will wipe down easily.

4) Quantity of 3!

They should work for what I'm using them for....

I actually paid...........................................................................................................................................$12.50ea!

Those look great in your kitchen, Nicole! You find the best bargains!

Does a $19 pair of black jeans from Old Navy count? I’m so tired of looking for jeans that fit right on me, I mean, if they don’t work or I don’t like them after a couple of months, I haven’t lost much. They arrived today and they do feel pretty good. They are lightweight, length is right, rise is right, they are a little bit more baggy in the thighs than I wanted them to be but i can live with it.

They are really nice looking chairs. I don't usually like the "bar stools" but yours look comfortable. My beef with them is that they are so high and uncomfortable to sit on and then I have to carefully slide off. I never accept that seating at a restaurant or bar. Nice find!!

My indecision of "what to buy" is solved. 🏖️

Outside...that's a great buy! Old Navy has a lot of nice jeans.

The thrift store has two Amish...solid wood side chests....I don't know where I'd put them. Currently... $35ea...Saturday they go half price. I'm trying to figure out a way I can use them....? Link to see orig price

If they are in good shape I would grab them. I have been shopping for nightstands for months. I have come to the conclusion I need solid wood, all the other materials they are made with have awful smells. They smell like chemicals. I just haven't found the right size yet. Pretty stools, great price! They look nice.

Wow, that will really be a major score!!! I love that kind of thing. Sadly for me, I have reached full capacity for bringing more furniture into my house. I am not opposed to replacing something but haven't found anything that good to get rid of anything I already have.

I do agree that you should get them at that price and figure it out later. Let me live vicariously though you!! lol

@bpath...Here's my receipt. :0) Not unbelievable at all! And I bet next Saturday the Amish nightstands are still there too. There's usually a line when the store opens. They have sooooooooooooo much stuff!!!!!

I also got these socks, I needed a black pair. The price says $19., I paid $2.50. My husband found a bunch of name brand hand tools & an Under Armour long sleeved shirt....we spent $55.84 total on this shopping trip!

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@murraysmom Zone 6a OH, @katlan.....I'd have to get rid of ones I have. I'm also out of room. My old breakfast bar stools are getting donated.

I should not encourage you to buy something you don't need but..... things like those side chests I grab because if I can't get them to my own kids, there is always *someone's kid* who is trying to furnish a place. However we have a huge dry basement so it's easy for me. Those counter stools however, look like they were made for you! Great find!

My bargain is curtains I zhuzhed up. Bought and returned 3 sets of blackout curtains for one of our guest rooms. Wanted a soft white, one was too gray, another too yellow another too beige. Last one was such a dead hospital white I wanted to return it too but was out of time and threw up my hands in surrender. Grabbed paint and a stencil. Used my wall color (BM Natural Cream) watered down and did a linen-ish look all over brushing vertically then horizontally with a flogging brush to get the texture and make them a lighter version of the walls. Mixed a few different green craft paints I had and stenciled, went back here and there with some wall paint to loosen it up a bit. Not a Nicole-worthy bargain but all told <$80 for custom 102" length custom curtains is bargain enough for me!

We drive by the "thrift store" on our way to the gym, next door is Harbor Freight...stopped in...Tuesday's are senior day: Got this cute little zippered pouch to put hair do-dads in my gym bag. By Adrienne Vittadini. Has 6 little slots. The recharger was missing. $1.75. A white Tek Gear shirt: $3.50. The Amish wood nightstands were GONE! Couches were gone....place was cleaned out!

Bummer about the nightstands. Good thing you didn't NEED them! Nice purchases otherwise.

I have had this shirt in black for, IDK, maybe 15 years? The quality, for such a simple item, is something I notice every time i wear it. It is too big so I donated it. They go for $500ish (?!) but I found a new one in white, NWOT, for $65

Those are nice looking stools. We need to replace the ones we have, I'm not sure where to start. We'll probably go back to the store we bought them at.

The NWOT acronym was unfamiliar to me so I looked it up. Duh, the meaning is clear.

Here's one for you - about ten years ago, I needed two small items for a repair a guy was doing for me. I was able to find what I wanted that were NOS. Do you know that one?

Funny about meaning of ”NWOT”. I’d been puzzling over its meaning too but hadn’t bothered to look it up. Elmer’s comment pushed me to do it so now I’ve been enlightened. Sounds about same as ”MIB”! The term used must be determined by the type of item being sold. So, to answer the question about “NOS” - had to look it up since my guess was something close to ”NFS”.

Before anyone feels the need to correct me - I do understand ”MIB” isn’t same as ”NWOT”! The distinct difference came to me after a couple more sips of coffee…..

Is NOS = New Old stock? I purchased an 18K red coral pendant, it's tiny....from Hawaii that was NOS. A store went out of business, guy retired...had new stock that was unsold...then sold to another guy with a store.

    @Elmer J Fudd: " I'm not sure where to start "

    That was MY problem exactly!

@mtnrdredux_gw...Love the low price!!!! I love quality too!

Wow! Those stools look absolutely perfect for your breakfast bar.

Ironically I recently donated a pair of stools and have a few more I may end up donating too. I brought stools from my old house to this house but the homeowners left some furniture behind including two sets of stools. I liked their 2 kitchen stools better than my 4, found a match and ordered 2 more. I hated their wet bar area stools so I donated those 2 and kept my 4.

I keep meaning to check out some of the consignment stores and thrift stores up here in my new area, especially the one where I just donated furniture. There are a lot of very expensive part-time homes up here and my MIL used to have a consignment store in a similar ski town where people would sell the high end homes furnished and the new owners would consign everything and completely redecorate. I might be able to snag some amazing bargains if I just look.

" Is NOS = New Old stock? "

    Old - produced long ago

New - Unused, in brand new condition

I came across it when needing to replace 2 burned out vacuum tubes in a guitar amp.

Analog (non-digital) amps, in both sound systems and instrument amps, are thought to produce warmer and more nuanced sound than newer and more modern digital ones. Many amp designs date back to yesteryear when tube factories were common. What remains today are just a few factories in former Communist places (Slovakia and Russia) and one in China. Their newer-made products function adequately but are considered inferior to the still available but dwindling NOS stock from long-ago closed factories that were in Germany, the Netherlands, and the US.

I was able to find what I was looking for. Prices back then were much higher than more recently made tubes but still reasonable. Remaining supplies of NOS tubes have dwindled and prices have shot through the roof.

In case you're interested, most still-active musicians from yesteryear (say, older than 45) continue to use analog equipment but most stockpiled decades ago supplies of tubes they hoped would last for their remaining years of active performing. Many younger musicians also use tube amps - they're still made and sold, easy to find. But they come with recently manufactured tubes from the remaining few active sources.

Mtn, is yours not NWT or NIB?

Then there is NBW (no tag).

No photo, but I recently found a much loved organic cotton top in a blue/grey heathered fabric for $25. I needed a smaller size, as the small ordered 8yrs ago from Garnet Hill is a tad to big now.... but I still wear it now and then. Poshmark to the rescue.

Maybe not the hottest bargain, but I bought 3 Pooky lamp bases for $45 each (regular price $180). They were switching over to a different bulb type. I also got shades on sale! I hadn't removed all the shade packaging in this photo.

I purchased this small decanter turned lamp a few weeks ago. Ordered a new off whte linen shade on Etsy that costs 3x the price of lamp. I wanted something that would disappear on the kitchen counter (end closest to living area).

(I wasn't even going to bring the shade home, but kept for approx. measurements.)

I will rewire and do a very short cord. Kudos to whoever drilled the hole.

Not exciting decor, but... I am not too brand loyal with respect to laundry detergents. I used to pretty much get whatever was on sale among my acceptable brands ( within reason.). A while ago I started having a strong preference for PERSIL. My experience has been that it IS better.

Anyway, this is the second time I'm seeing a great promotion for it from LIDL.

Their usual price is $12.97 which is a good price, but their circular has it for $6.99 for today through Sunday.

What can I say? It's the little things

Today I read that second-hand sales of clothing are far outpacing retail. Much of that growth was in online re-sale. (Sorry, I don't remember the whole story, and I'm not going out to the garage -- brrrr -- to retrieve the Sunday paper.)

    Nicole thanked chisue

@chisue....Re-sale's outpacing new retail! Never saw THAT coming.

The thrift store we like is always packed, long lines to check out. I'm amazed malls went out of business. People seem to LIKE shopping! I've also noticed Goodwill has an online store. I purchased THIS NorthFace fleece vest online, From Goodwill. $14.95. Retails for $80.

I had no idea about this trend, certainly not that Walmart has a 'brand' called something like No Boundaries (NOBO?). I knew about 'curated fashion', but thought this was always very upscale, designer fashion. I think designer purses and shoes were the first thing I noticed being re-sold -- at ginormous prices. There were even gang raids on high fashion stores, feeding that resale. I haven't seen that lately.

Does anyone here see everyday clothing being 'recycled'? There have always been consignment shops. I just didn't know it was so BIG. And...Walmart?
