Ready for a refresh—would love your redecorating advice

I’m looking to refresh and redecorate my home and could really use some expert eyes. I’m open to layout changes, decor swaps, and any ideas that will make the space feel more cohesive and lived-in. excited to hear your thoughts—thank you in advance!

Consider a larger rug with at least the front legs of the furniture on it.

Find some really great baskets or pots for your plants and consider grouping them more towards the perimeter of the rooms. You can mix in a plant stand or two to vary the plant heights.

I am assuming your are standing at the front door looking into the room...

I'd move the TV and console to the black wall.

Move the sectional to the long solid wall with one side separating the kitchen from the living space. You could add a sofa table behind, or another storage piece to use for the dining space.

Add a couple swivel chairs in front of the windows facing the TV and sofa creating a conversation area. Yes, a much larger area rug to define the space. If you must keep the etageres, tie them together and use them in the dining area. yes, put your pots in large baskets or similar pots for a coordinating look. are the decorative panels flanking the window built in to the wall?

yes they are built into the wall (wallpaper and wood out line)

The flooring, is it cork or concrete? A winner. You do not mention what can go, what can stay, but I would minimize and then lighten, particularly the dark over stuffed sofa.

Lots of plants, but not arranged as is. Find the best natural light in the space...maybe where the sectional is now and give it a green house effect.

Your floors are gorgeous! You’re so fortunate. You can build up from there and I’m sure you’ll get some good suggestions.

You have some heavy, substantial furniture but the spindly shelving pieces don’t go with that furniture. Find a new home for those. I like the sample picture that Celery posted with heavier side pieces.

Nice green thumb! But I agree the plants look odd just spotted here and there. Group them up.

You can place shelving behind the sofa instead wall art as on pic

IMO first step get a new lighter colored sofa. Lose the 2 metal shelving things , the plants need a home where they get the light they need and not tripping hazards You are in desperate need for lighting in the room with the sofa . TV watching seems off too. A floor plan would be nice with actual measurements . It seems you have a ton of wasted space too. A nice piece of art instaed of the mirror .
