Can you combine tile and old flooring in bathroom.

Recently I pulled up cheap vinyl flooring in my bathroom. My house was built in 1942. I found a lot of hardwood under really cheap carpeting. Was sort of hoping that's what Id find in the bathroom. And I did. Only it starts with one wood and ends in another. I believe this apron was because of an addition. The room next door has the same maple flooring. The second really dirty floor is not subfloor. There's a another wood floor underneath which I believe is the subfloor. I really like showing what was originally in the house when it was built. And I wondered how hard it would be to clean this wider plank floor and cover the separate area with a coordinating tile. The room is only five by five and a half. So it won't be a large project.
