Short Arizona Trip- tips and suggestions?

We have a trip to Arizona scheduled for mid-March, flying into and out of Phoenix. Long story short, we’ll be visiting our daughter, who’s currently in Wickenburg. It doesn’t look like we’ll have full days together—more like a hike, a dinner, that sort of thing. We want to be accessible to Wickenburg at the beginning and end of the trip, but we’d also love to explore a bit.

Wickenburg itself looks appealing—Caballeros Museum, maybe the Vulture City Ghost Tour, plus just soaking it in and doing a not-too-long hike with our daughter and grand-dog.

Phoenix doesn’t really call my name, though I’m open to it (and DH thinks we should go). We were there about 40 years ago. Honestly, I could imagine living there, but visiting doesn’t excite me as much. Are there any true must-see or must-do spots?

I’ve heard great things about Jerome and Cottonwood—and of course Sedona. Funny enough, now that I’m researching, I’m more excited about Jerome and Wickenburg than Sedona. Still, if we have two days in Sedona, how would you spend them?

We have seven days total, including flights. We’re active seniors with no mobility issues—we walk a lot but aren’t marathon types. Organized tours are fine, but we’re not looking for daredevil adventures.

Would love your hive-mind recommendations and tips!

I used to go every year for a conference. If you like FLW, try Taliesin. Other than that, all i did was Sedona and spots along the way. Desert Botanical Garden at night. And spas. Ive not been but heard good things about RoRo.

We went to Arizona to see "The WAVE". You have to apply online for a permit to enter the area. It's about a 1.5mile hike.

Antelope Canyon, upper & lower.....been to both of those....near Page Arizona. Navajo Bridge....saw that.

If you haven’t been to Phoenix in 40 years, you will be shocked. My grandparents moved to Sun City in 1975, long before all the freeways went in. Plan for lots of traffic and ”just because it looks close on the map…” timing.

I love the Heard museum along with FLW.

Taliesen. The Cosanti Bell Foundry in Paradise Valley (not Arcosanti). The Musical Instrument Museum is fabulous, beautiful building to start with, in architecture and layout, and an incredible collection.

" I could imagine living there, but visiting doesn’t excite me as much. "

    I share this view.

I used to go every year for business trips that provided organized visits to tourist sites (and other places) and plenty of personal time too. I think I've done most of the "visitor" things people do - I can't remember anything that knocked my sox off. I always enjoyed trips there and to Tucson.

No suggestions for activities. Have a good trip.

PS - It's interesting that your daughter, from presumably an East Coast origin, wound up in a small town in Arizona.

Came here to suggest Taliesen West, only to find that Mtn and bpath had already done so. Consider this a 3rd vote for Taliesen West! An another vote for the Cosanti Bell Foundry.

Mid-March is a good time for golfing in that area. Mother, Sister, DD, and I went on a girls’ golf trip one year for DD’s Spring Break. It was great fun.

I'm also not a Phoenix fan, but I did like Jerome when I was there for a day. Also not a huge Sedona fan, but I loved Flagstaff. Just a good vibe there.

    Enjoy your trip.

    Another vote for Taliesen West.

My favorite thing I did in Arizona was a guided night hike. Sedona and several other cities are registered dark sky communities and the stars were amazing. We had a terrific guide which I'm sure made the whole thing, but it was one of my all time favorite hikes.

My vote would be Jerome and Sedona.

If it has been 40 years, you will be shocked. Roads that used to be in the middle of the desert have shopping centers and housing developments and stoplights. Mountains that used to be black mounds against the evening sky are now dotted with house lights. Even Sedona has gotten busy. And it will likely be busy in March, what with families there on spring vacation. But, it is beautiful to look at the geography around you.

Phoenix is just another big city, as far as I'm concerned.

I vote for Jerome and Sedona...many shops in Sedona and the scenery is beautiful.

Flagstaff would be worth visiting... as would Prescott.

    I love Arizona.

Thank you for all the feedback. I did not realize or I guess I forgot (?) about FLW so that looks good. The sunset walks sound appealing. but not sure they'll have them when we are there. We are not baseball fans. Nicole that looks amazing but I think it might not be doable distance wise.but I'll keep it mind.

I'm glad to hear Jerome and Sedona are well liked. My daughter was saying that Sedona is very congested and not what it was, but I still need to see it for myself. I'd like to see Prescott and Flagstaff too, but time might not allow.

    Good feedback all around.

If there is anything you especially enjoyed or recommend in Sedona, please share.
