sell the current hood and buy a metal hood INSERT. That's what the wood goes around. Inserts are an inch or two smaller so you can custom build the wood around it.

I would avoid a wood hood like the plague they get greasy are hard to clean and often the insert is too weak to vent properly . Farmhouse is just a look it does not need a wood hood to make it so. Maybe post a pic of your kitchen too. The buy;ky wood hoods often look out of place in many kitchens

I would prefer to clean a metal hood instead of cleaning a wood one. There are lots of farmhouse tyle metal hoods that you could select. Going to max out your budget for you and suggest a copper hood.

You could have someone build a wood shell over the metal hood, finish it to be easy to wipe down, and leave a couple inches between front of hood and the shell so you can press the buttons. Any kind of custom work may cost more than simply buying a new hood.
