I wouldn't just think about the gold of your chandelier when making a decision - what colors are in your rug? what style/tone do you have in the furniture in the room? what colors are in the artwork? I like a little black in each room, but it can't just be found in the curtain rod...

The rod size also seems a bit "insignificant" for the space and ceiling height. I would go one size larger.

A wood rod would also be an option to tie into any stained cased goods you have in the room.

There is nothing "simpler" and your own suggestion of black and ball finial wasn't all that "simple" nor Suited to wainscoting, dining light, arches etc, and the formality suggested by those things.
