Bare root Martha Stewart from Witherspoon... yay!

This is a perfect example of why I love ordering from Witherspoon. I ordered a grafted bare root Martha Stewart from them in November. A friend told me that he thought Martha was only offered own-root, so I emailed Witherspoon and they said it was available both ways, and they chose grafted... which is what I wanted. Shipped on Feb. 3, delivered last night Feb. 9. Even after being in transit for 6 days, it arrived in perfect condition. Double bagged in heavy plastic, with sphagnum moss still nice and wet. Five gorgeous canes, and nice long roots. Not one root broken, and nicely hydrated canes. Rose was 38.99. They're sold out for bare root Martha this season, but I thought I'd show you what Witherspoon roses have always looked like for me :-D

    Susan,

    I’m so glad this worked out for you! We need a pic, I’ve never actually seen a #1 grade grafted Martha, only puny own roots.

    Wonderful, Susan. They did it right. I can't wait to see her bloom. She's supposed to have big luscious blooms, too. I hope the human Martha is pleased with her namesake. Diane

    One might say it’s a Better Bare Root nay a Best Bare Root…no membership fee required either.

    @knightsgambit Just a nice honest family-owned rose nursery :-D

    Yep @susan9santabarbara. By my own admission, I might have been a frustrating customer to deal with in that I added to my existing order two times but they handled it with class. Received my roses today, mind you in a very manageable medium size box. Roses were twice sealed in plastic, moist, and not a broken root or cane. Can't ask for any better service than that.

    Absolutely amazing!!!!! I ordered an own root last year unintentionally - it was the smallest I've ever seen. It was immense dissappointment. It gave me a couple of absolutely gorgeous blooms however . My friend locally also bought an own root and it was also tiny and it died. What a mess

    I'm generally a big fan of Meilland roses, so I was intrigued when Martha was announced. I saw that it was (supposedly) an Edmunds exclusive, and decided to wait a year to see what the input was. As the year went on, I was kind of stunned that Edmunds was sending wimpy own-roots. Then more people posted about it being available from various other sources, but they all seemed to be very small. @Echo_Texas_zone9a, your reports were one of the ones I followed. So I'm glad I waited... originally it was to see what people thought about the rose, but it ended up being a good choice in terms of what was being sent. When ordering in November, Edmunds still had it listed as own-root, but Witherspoon had it listed as grafted, so I ordered it from them. I've always had great bare roots from Witherspoon, plus I'm geting kind of old to get many more own-roots :-D

    You're kind of old? I shouldn't be even getting grafted roses. I should be giving my roses away. I think I'm the oldest person currently posting regularly on this forum. I'm pretty sure I can get Martha from Edwards this spring (Ben will hate that). If it's like most I get from them, it will be starting to bloom in it's 5 gallon pot when I pick it up in early May. At my age, that's the only way to do it. Otherwise I expect some gorgeous photos of Martha posted by you before too long. Diane

    I ordered from Witherspoon this year for the first time and I’m thoroughly impressed:

    well-hydrated

    HUGE roots!! The two on the right are own-root Kiss Me Kate and Honeymoon. Outstanding.
