Where should I place these shelves between my two uneven cabinets? 1920’s wetbar.

Is that a refrigerator or washer/dryer? If the later no shelves, wet bar or not.

I wondered about the appliance too as at first look it’s a washer/dryer! What’s going to be in between it & the cabinet & how will their different heights be addressed? Is crown going in at top of cabs? Seems like the space between cabs is too narrow for shelves. I’d think about adding a shelf under the larger cab on left to visually balance the difference in bottom of the 2 cabs.

Here is a really bad AI photo of the space. There is going to be a beverage fridge there with a counter, sink, and backsplash. The washer is there to stay. Yes it is a little odd but so is my house.

Definitely like the dark counter matching the washer better than the light color counter as @lisedv shows you

My question was the placement of the shelves. That’s it.

No need to be so abrupt. Two posters have replied with no shelves & a third poster showed you pictures of possible placements.

Yes I know, just wanted to fill the empty areas in my mockup. Your 2 shelves on their own aren't sufficient to balance the alignment problem of the wall cabinets, they just add to the unbalanced effect. That's why I suggested a long shelf under the left side cabinet to meet with the bottom of the right side cabinet. Your 2 shelves would go above that one, distance between them depends on the items you intend to place on the shelves.

I view the washer and cabinet above as a separate zone and am fine with asymmetrical. A shelf under the bar cabinet is not a bad idea but not sure if there is space as i have low ceilings.

Your best option for an overall balance look on that wall is to replace the wall cabinet on the right for one that's the same height as the cabinets on the left.

For the conditions you provided, I think the best solution would be to line up a top shelf with both tops, a bottom shelf to align with the bottom of the left cabinet, and one in the middle.

This turns in into Two shapes, left and right rather than three shapes, left, right and middle. The shelves become an extention of the left, shorter cabinet.

Typically I do not align upper and lower cabinets, because lowers tend to be certain widths because of function, but I do tend to do an even balanced arrangement of uppers. This is about as even as I could get these, because the tendency is to do a higher cabinet over the sink for more room beneath.

I did do one of my kitchens with the cabinets going straight across with a concealed vent hood at the minimum allowable height, but it kind of made the part over the stove a little low, the part over the sink okay and what was in between too high. I could barely reach the second shelf, and needed a step stool above that. It was really form over function, and I was okay with it because it was a minimalist design, but it was not the easiest kitchen for me to work in.

I’d be looking at the bigger picture and by fooling the eye, the uneven cabinets and even the gap will be much less pronounced.

If interested…suggest painting the cabinets black, choose a black backsplash and counter and the washer will now fade away visually! Suggest adding wood to tie in with the wall on the right to create a more cohesive area.

I’d add 2 thick shelves between the cupboards + a sconse (battery operated).

To overcome the cupboards’ height difference, just hang wineglasses from a wood slab.

@Maureen's idea to paint the cabinets is excellent!

I just sanded and painted them white and hung them so not repainting. Also I do not want a modern look. i am going for a 1920’s vibe. I got these cabinets second hand so making it work.

Can you show examples of the 1920 vibe you are wanting, as it may help you receive more helpful advice for your two issues.

The first photo is my inspiration photo. i was going to do a partition wall but the mock up looked ridiculous. Also the measurements did not work. Then I got used cabinets. I am kind of winging it. Tight budget. I bought a 15” brass Nantucket sink which will be drop in. I bought a 30” dual zone fridge which is the same size as the sink base cabinet. I will do a brass railing for the shelves. When I look at it, I think it is looking great so far. I am unbothered by the different cabinet sizes.

I like palimpsest's idea, except I would add another shelf so there are three equal spaces, not two.

Well, how about something like this... Only 1 shelf aligned with the bottom of the cabinets on the left side.
