Very nice room, especially with the rug. Would you please list the things that bother you the most?

I think you have done a fine job on the room. I would add a tall tree in the corner and replace the mirror with a vertical framed piece of art.

The art selections could be scaled larger for this size room.

That’s lovely, Beverly! I think what’s been bothering me is that the balance of the room feels a little off. The tall tree seems to help a lot, and I really like the idea of a large piece of art above the fireplace. The ceilings are actually 9 feet, but they don’t feel that tall, so I think both the tree and the art would help emphasize that height and enhance the overall feel of the space. I also feel as if the room isnt "grounded" there isnt really a main focal point. I feel as though the fireplace wall should be the focal point but am unsure how to acheive that. I added one more photo above for more perspective.

Not sure why this is bothering you so much since you've made some nice choices of furnishings. Here are my first impressions of small things that throw off the space or can be changed:

--Pull the sofa about a foot onto the rug.

--Reposition the modern chair onto the corner of the rug and tilt it to face the sectional. This will create a better conversational grouping on the rug.

--Arc lamps are usually positioned over a coffee table to light up the conversational space in the center of the seating. Try moving it forward.

--Remove the little table and lamp behind the sofa and the plant and stool--too many little pieces in this room that take away from the bigger pieces.

--Curtains are too flimsy all by their lonesome since you have a major leather sectional. Consider adding warm, light bamboo shades and keeping the curtains to the side.

--Put the throws and some of the pillows in a rugged basket where you can reach them. They add visual clutter to the really nice sofa and visually distract from the rug, also a good choice.

Move your mantle mirror over your console. It'll reflect light from the window. If it doesn't look right, add a large round mirror when budget allows.

Change out your art work for something bolder and more abstract for over the fireplace. Choose a floating or very simple frame. A bolder work will balance the leather sofa and wood pieces. The gilt frame doesn't work.

Go for this clean feeling for your room:

I think you have a great start but the accent colors arent working with your caramel sofa or your dark brick and wood tones. I would do the following

1. Axe the pink tones. Bring in deep blue, cream, deep green.

2. Change the dining chairs to pull in your cabinet color or go with a deep green.

3. Change your rug to incorporate these colors.

4. I would replace your draperies with a more tailored pleated ones and keep the creamy warm white color. Pull the art between the windows and use that area to stack back your drapery panels on. This will create a more cohesive back drop for your sofa.

bring in pillows in these tones and punctuate it all with warm whites and creams.

5. change your chair and where it sits. Bring in a swivel in a rich green if you need it to be able to turn for TV viewing.

6. pull the wall clock from the tv wall. Its out of place there. If you need a clock buy a decorative table top one and put it on the tv console.

What clutter? The only clutter I see is the stuff on your fridge. And I say this as someone who puts her toaster in a drawer when she's finished using it.

I don't have any better advice for adjusting the balance than the tips you're already getting from others. I think your home looks lovely just as it is. I do understand that you want to adjust the look till it feels just right to you, but please know it is already lovely.

@Design Interior South - What am amazing idea for the drapes! I never would have thought of that but it is such an easy and high impact fix. I will absolutely be taking your advice. Thank you. I also agree about the dining chair color and as soon as it is in our budget I will swap those out.

I didn't realize that "painting" was framed TV, so forget having a mirror there.

And double hanging more substantial curtains to the side definitely adds interest to the room.

First for me?

Take away the cabinet right of the fire. ! Especially if you want more of a focal point there!

Black......It can be a great accent, with limits, and I don't love the black painted mantel on the dark red brick..

I'd love to see a larger rug. An electrician can fix the cord dangle of the tv., which needs to be lowered,,,,,and forgive the theft and some hideous colored pencil........!!!!.

Sans the cabinet.......maybe a natural woven wood shade. Definite yes to a tree in corner

A dab less black , especially the mantel, White would be fine, warmer white and yes...

A warmer softer white on the walls.

I'd not hesitate t paint the brick, wash and leave a hint coming through.

I never use sectionals in a design. They just don't allow the flexibility that sofa and chairs do.
