It's native here and not problematic in gardens. In the past it has been used in brewing and medicinally. The variegated form is widely sold for summer containers but rarely survives winter. No idea why not.

Being omnipresent in my lawn, it really doesn't bother me because its height doesn't come up above the grass and, to me, just blends into it. Chicory is the most annoying weed on my lawn, especially in dry weather as the grass is suppressed, but it just shoots up unencumbered.

If only it would stay in the lawn. The minute it reaches a border with a bed, it leaps into the bed and takes off.
