RE "I have options" are you getting any help with custom home deisgn ideas? height can be an invitation for detail ..not necessarily having only to do with cabinets. Do you have any inspiration ideas? how far along w the architects are you?

I have 12 ft ceilings in my main living/kitchen/dining areas. I also have ceiling beams, so I did not carry my cabinets to the ceiling, but they are stacked . Total height of upper cabinets is 65".

Who is telling you it won't look good?

With taller ceilings, make sure you are looking at the proportions of doors, windows, sliders, etc. Houses with higher ceilings should have taller windows/sliders/doors and not the standard windows that get put into a house with 8 ft ceilings. Don't waste that extra height by just having a bunch of useless drywall above short windows/sliders.

My front door was designed to be 10 ft high to make use of the 12 ft ceiling height.

I'm in a condo and have 10' ceiling in the living area and the ceiling was brought down to 9' in the kitchen area with cabinets up to the ceiling.

In part it depends on the size of the room, most of the images above are of large rooms. The images that show somewhat smaller rooms have more/bigger windows which help create an open feel.
