fwiw when i was doing my kitchen 15 years ago I challenged myself to use as few different materials that I could and it’s aged so nicely

That is the beauty of the boards -- ask and you'll get feedback and ideas you may have never even thought of. Yea, a lot of times it's hard to swallow things we don't want to hear and that don't align with our vision, but critical thinking demands fair evaluation of the comments at the least, and that often ends up with design that is much better.

Group Think is usually best. Glad you got good ideas from the Houzz family.

I think I know what you mean, RedRyder, and I've certainly seen lovely outcomes here on Houzz that were fueled by crowd-sourcing ideas. But crowd-sourcing from a random pool is not the same as groupthink, which is by definition a poor planning method, and which can result in bad, even dangerous, decisions.

Asking for ideas from a wide pool of unrelated strangers on the web does not inevitably result in groupthink, for which we may be grateful.

@JAN MOYER: I understand that I could have responded to the original thread from 2024, (here: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6470086/need-help-narrowing-style-finishes) but often people get upset at others for resurrecting zombie threads, so I opted for a new discussion. Besides, so much changed, it felt silly to be like "Oh hey, this is what this kitchen actually looks like. Thanks all!" and expect everyone to navigate the pages of discussion that came before it.

I just wanted to give a friendly shoutout. When I actually have photos, I'll be sure to post them to the old thread.

@porkchop_z5b_MI - When I have finished photos I will certainly post them. I am waiting on a a custom banquette storage bench (which hasn't even been started yet), and we're doing other work on the 1st floor that I would like to have wrapped up. The area is still an active construction zone. But, when I stand in the space, I smile a lot and think "Ahhhhhh"
