Has anyone paid to remove 2 story load bearing wall

How much has anyone paid a contractor for a kitchen load bearing wall to be removed in a 2 story home

I have - twice, in two different homes. One time it involved a steel I beam. Both times there was work done to shore up the foundation (slab foundation).

    What did your renovations cost

Yes, twice with LVL but cannot remember the cost as it was a long time ago.

Every house and situation is going to be completely different. It will however not be inexpensive, that I can pretty well guarantee you.

Not sure what it cost because it was rolled into the entire contractor cost. And a lot of the cost is going to depend on the structural requirements - what needs to be done to support the load and how much the foundation needs to be reinforced. The cost is unlikely to be insignificant, but compared to the cost of a full kitchen remodel, it would be relatively less substantial.

    Charles:

Your question is like asking "How much is a car?" in that there are so many variables. Post some pictures with dimensions and your area and we can give you some fair guesses.

@OC Kitchen , that's interesting about reinforcing slab foundation. Can you share the procedure used?

Removed lots of bearing walls, and as others said, every job is different, the price will depend on the span, what's inside the wall, the type of beam and its cost, etc not to mention the cost for architectural drawings to obtain a building permit, etc

If you can, post a few pictures to get an idea of what you got there, that would be great to give you approx. cost taken from the sky, which I doubt will do you any good.

That said, your best bet is to get a few estimates from local contractors who specialize in that work and compare apples to apples.

    Good luck

@klem1 - What I know about contstruction and building engineering could be put into a thimble. I really only know what was done at our two remodels. The first one involved a steel I beam. They demolished about 3 square feet of our foundation under where one end of the beam went and dug down maybe another 6 feet or so and poured concrete to support the beam. The other remodel was basically the same thing but they demolished more of the foundation to pour more concrete in. Hope that helps.
