Mountain Home- Black interior windows on Great Room only- yes or no?

last month

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has used black interior windows on one room only in your house. If so- do you love it? We are designing a mountain home with a huge panel of windows in the Great Room which will look out at the mountains. Since it is going to be a focal point, I was thinking of popping the windows with black but have all other interior windows white. Any thoughts or advice on this idea?

In our lake house, the windows in the living room and kitchen/dining room look out over the water. We framed them with a wide, thick casing, painted black. They look like picture frames and draw your eyes to the view. The windows in the bedrooms, bathrooms and laundry room look out onto our gardens and the street. They are framed in a simpler casing and painted white.

We are very happy with the look!

Same color and window style around the entire home (style as luch as possible). Do not mix colors. Just my .02 from my 40 years in the construction supply business.

Would think that you would want the windows to disappear as much as possible so they don't detract from the view.

Exterior frame color can be different than interior. On the exterior, in general, they should all be the same. On the interior, in general, each room or area should be the same to each other.

Also, I do not consider the frame to be a focal point, but what is through the glass.

As long as those windows feel relatively separated from others I think that could be a nice feature. You might consider doing it to every room connected to that space (ie. if the wall treatments extend into additional adjoining spaces, do those black as well).

Bedrooms/bathrooms/etc. might be better to have a different palette. I really wouldn't worry about overpowering your views.

I guess you could do black in all the spaces seen at the same time and white in bedrooms and bathrooms but I would not do that Minimal frame type metal windows in black would be my choice everywhere . As for the views those will speak for themselves regardless of window color .I would do all black inside and out forsure

    I’d use black throughout.

You can easily soften the black in other rooms.

What about the doors and other trim? If you use wall color for trim instead of a bright white I'd go for black on the main view windows.

    One............pick: )

We did big windows with black trim. We love them but if we do it again it will be with drywall return with black. It’s prettier when the window looks out on a sea of green.😉

I actually think that could look really nice. Using black windows in the great room would make the mountain view feel more framed and intentional, almost like artwork. Since it’s the focal point of the house, the contrast could really highlight that space while the rest of the home stays lighter with white windows.
