How would you design this family room?

I intend to keep the brown wall and a similar color carpet. I'll also remove the middle trim on the white walls.

Room is 25’x20’

Open to any and all ideas.

I like Celery's "more elegant style". The piecemeal flooring look is not appealing. But "function before style". Carpet near a fireplace is common but not ideal, especially white carpet. Wood in the kitchen is a current favorite that we need to rethink relative to durability that now that we're all detoxed from our addiction to white cabinetry. An upgrade would be to replace the carpeting and wood in the hall, living room, and kitchen with radiant-heated stone -- maybe you'd like honed Cararra marble -- elegant and in line with your apparent color preferences.

What are your seating requirements and preferences/will a tv be added/do you have any furniture already? What’s your style/the feel you are after?

Assume there is hardwood underneath and I’d use a rug vs carpeting (for a lot of reasons). If opting for carpeting, consider a more practical color given it’s a high traffic area.

The first step though is with measuring so you can decide on a layout that addresses your family’s needs.

Pictures are very hard to guess footage. It appears to me the room is asking for two separate areas. One lounging and one games table in front of the window. Given the carpet I don't see an informal eating area near the kitchen. This is a challenging space if you want a TV. Best is TV and fireplace side by side so both are in eye sight when sitting.

"Added a second pic and dimensions."..............................not exactly

A drawing please? All the walls, all the openings, where the support posts are located. Use graph paper, 1/4 inch box to a foot, and a tape measure, You don't need the computer.

Every solid wall has a dimension, every window, the fire, every opening! They each have a dimension in feet and inches. Furniture placement depends these feet and inches for everything.

It should include........all of this ( opening to kitchen has a dimension.......)

POST IT below in jpeg format? Thank you!

Also remove or paint the trim at the ceiling the same color as the walls. That trim is very 1980’s and the way it breaks up the visual is jarring.

It would look so much better if you ran the hardwood throughout then used an area rug.

I agree to eliminate the chair rail from the area. Looks better without.

Do ;you require a TV screen in the room?

remove chair rails, paint moulding at ceiling same color as walls. Id paint ceiling and walls same neutral color. if there is hardwood running throughout the area it might look better to opt for smaller rug concentrated around the furniture . the modern visualization by celery will look lovely in this room

Remove the piece of crown molding that ends so abruptly. Have it end on an interior corner.

Oh, I just saw your fireplace threshold is brick. What a flooring patchwork. Please replace it all (threshold, carpet, wood) in the living room, kitchen, and hallway with a honed stone with electric radiant heating. You can make it a light cream color like the carpet color you say you like. It will show off your beautiful wood paneling and cabinetry.
