Got quite the estate sale haul today

last month

You just never know. My favorite estate sale company occasionally holds a warehouse sale, a conglomeration of items from customers who don't have enough goods for a stand-alone sale, buy outs, single items etc. There was a LOT to sift through. Came across one piece that looked to be Mexican folk art on animal skin, took a pic and asked my DIL if she would be interested (her heritage is partly Mexican/PR/Indigenous) and she was. Came across 2 other pieces, none from the same house originally. And it just spiraled from there.

Turns out they are not Mexican but likely Ecuadorian - doesn't matter she loves them.

She also loved this sweet little thing

Although this isn't my favorite type of Molas she liked it. I have 2 that are 'stories'

Mexican folk art ink on skin - but I may keep this one

Batik - I will keep this - frame has seen better days but I'll figure that out

Love this William H Johnson print

Anything Modigliani-esque always gets my attention and it fits this chestnut frame I already have

Fingers crossed this posts.

You did very well todayn Isn’t it funny the quirk of fate of seeing the sale notice and having time to go and then actually finding things that are wonderful and make you— and someone else— very happy

wonderful! what fun. And it's so nice that they found someone to love them, pardon the anthropomorphization.

Amazing score! I believe the "skin" is actually amate paper made from tree bark by Otomi artisans. Probably more than you would ever want to know in this link - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amate

@ljwrar - 3 of them (the small colorful Ecuadorian ones) I am now certain are sheepskin but the ink one is probably that type of paper. Thanks for that link - very interesting!

Great haul! Such interesting, in a good way, pieces too.

@Allison0704 I like that *in a good way* ! Art is so personal and what appeals to one can be a yawn or a head scratcher to another. My MIL would buy *art* or decorative knick knacks for me, present them at Xmas and it was always uncomfortable. The obligation it presented along with being completely oblivious to my taste highlighted our differences. That's why I sent pics and called my DIL - she has been honest about not liking things (other than art, like clothes or jewelry) in the past. When she likes something she lights up. I enjoy all kinds of art but things with a global feel have always caught my eye. I think it was cultivated in my teen hippie days!

Definitely a haul, love the art you found. Agree on buying art, decor and "knick knacks" for others, I just don't do it without checking.

Love them all but especially the young woman with the flowers. You did very well.

Why am I not lucky like this?

@DLM2000-GW You described my previous nightmare. I never liked opening gifts in front of anyone. I don't even like getting gifts! Probably due to the fact I HATE surprises.

Isn't it fun to find something for your DIL? I do similar when I see something I think DD2 would like - send her photo and hope to hear back while still in there..She usually says yes. It is almost always something I would like to buy for myself, but have nowhere for it. So I get to enjoy when I am staying at her house. LOL

@mnzinnia that's a wonderful piece and I love your name - perfect! I can't believe you chanced leaving it there - the gods were with you that it not only hadn't sold but was 50%! I have way too many experiences with the opposite happening.

You found some wonderful pieces and could already picture them (so to speak) in a setting, that makes them just right. I have a friend who goes to estate sales every weekend, it is her and her husband’s fun-together outing, and she has given me some perfect bits of art and objets.
