These rooms looks small. Once you add enough furniture for everyday seating for 6, it is hard to imagine a lot of space left over for entertaining. Stash folding chairs in the basement and entertain outdoors when the weather is nice.

It's too small, it is never going to be the island facing a great room type home.

Or? It's the best they can find, and nobody can advise anything without a drawing of the spaces, and actual dimensions and beyond that? You tell them to make a Houzz account : ) for help with furnishing. ..........until they make an addition, should dollars and lot afford that.

You don't show the eating area near the kitchen. Is it large enough to feed 6 three meals a day? What is their deffinition of 'entertaining'? Daily school friends over, holiday gatherings or monthly family friends' bashes? The second off the kitchen family room will barely accomodate the family. The front livingroom is poorly placed with the front door RIGHT THERE.... The best advice might be to keep looking.

Sorry but have to just say that this isn’t a ‘decorating’ issue to solve but one of ‘design’. Like others posted - way too many questions to answer first. And most importantly does this family just come to this home with 6 toothbrushes :) I’m sure they have furniture to work with?

Am assuming there is a mother and father and 4 children. Is that correct? Does the house have 5 bedrooms? Hopefully so. Honestly the living room and kitchen don't look big enough for a family of 6. If the family hasn't purchased this house yet will suggest that they keep looking for something larger that they love.

Is there a basement that could be used to have a playroom space for the kids?

Kids have way too many toys these days and those living areas will be cluttered if you try to fit furniture and toys for a family of 6.

Way too little info for even a guess . I cannot imagine a home where entetaining is done often without places to dine . I garee if pssible they should keep looking for a home that fits .
