best sectional sofa for family with dogs

last month

We have always bought leather sectional sofas thinking that was the best when having dogs. Problem is leather isn’t always the most comfortable and warm. With all the new microfiber sofas out there, does anyone have any other recommendations besides leather? If leather, which ones? Thanks!

Honestly the best thing is to throw a blanket down where your dog sits. Our dog isn’t always allowed on Tue couch but she’s cute so overtime we caved and she would drool and leave marks even when “clean” so we deep cleaned our sectional and now throw a thick blanket down before we invite her up.

Yes, we have three large dogs and do this now. We’ve had dogs for over 30 years, and always bought leather because we allow the dogs on the couch. But we know microfiber has come a long way so that’s what I’m curious if some people have had good results with.

We have always had leather and dogs I alwys layed a blanket down where they preferred to go on the sofas. I have never had leather that did not warm to body temp in a few minutes but it needs to leather everywhere including the back if you want it breathe and warm up quickly. Animal hair does not come off mictfiber easily so still need a blanket.

I’ve had a suede-like microfiber slip covered couch for years and it’s been a good choice. The covers are washable and while the dogs don’t sit on the sofa they sleep next to it so it does get regular cleaning. The feel is nice, not plasticky

Lots of performance and indoor/outdoor fabrics are available these days to upholster furniture that will be used by a family. You will have to look at better furniture brands that offers these types of fabrics. Also make sure the fabrics have a high rub/wear Wyzenbeek rating, preferably over 50,000.

And even with a performance fabric I would still get a sofa cover from Orvis to catch everyday dirt and moisture from the dogs. Easier to throw the cover in the wash than clean the upholstery.

When we moved to the new house in 2022 I told my DH we no longer allowed dogs on sofas. We have expensive large Orvis dog beds all over the house and I was tired of also having to wash the sofa covers. The dogs learnt the new rules in a few days.

My not-on-the-furniture dogs always look on in amazement and incomprehension when a visiting canine hops on the sofa.

Purchasing a 2nd set of slipcovers when I got my couch was also good for my lifestyle.
