Well, the best turkey sandwich is the one the day after Thanksgiving. I don’t care what’s on it, or what kind of bread it’s on, it’s just good because I’m tired and relaxed!

My favorite chicken sandwich is leftover chicken, pulled off, not tidy slices, on a bakery hamburger bun, with butter or mayo and lettuce, and a glass of milk.

(The backstory and location are as important to a sandwich as what’s on it.)

When I lived at home, we used to make turkey and cheese sandwiches toasted in the oven. They were the best!!!

Turkey and avocado, or turkey with horseradish mustard. Very different from one another, so it depends on what I'm craving. I rarely make chicken, so I rarely have chicken leftovers.

I love turkey. So much so, that I have them multiple..upon multiple.. days after Thanksgiving. Therefore, I can have them in multiple ways. My favorite is basic, no frills. Turkey, mayo, salt, and lettuce, any bread will do. Hopefully very fresh. We dont have the breaded/fried chicken sands nearby that Lone Jack likes. I like them too, but too much trouble to make at home.

It's a tie between Chick-Fil-A or Popeyes spicey chicken sandwich. I haven't had either for well over a year. I believe the last sandwich I had was leftover TG turkey with lettuce and mayo.

Oh, I do like chick-fil-a, with the sauce. I wish they sold the sauce in smaller bottles, we used it on other meats and it was good but not often enough to use up the bottle. We do bring an extra little container home from the restaurant. (Note to the in-restaurant sauce packagers, it should be in a two-way package, so you can dip nuggets or fries in, or squeeze it onto a sandwich.)

Turkey or chicken sandwiches with us are only ever made as a byproduct of a roast bird, which I make often. So it's just left over meat, bread ( either sourdough or wholemeal) and either mayo or chutney. Maybe cranberry sauce if it's Christmas. Plus a few salad leaves if we have any around. And, of course, being Brits, we butter the bread first.

But usually if there's left over meat I'll make a whole new meal rather than just a snack. Risotto, curry etc.

I make chicken salad a lot in the summer. It is good on a sandwich with lettuce or with crackers.

    Poached chicken, cut and shedded

    Blue Plate Mayo

    Touch of French’s mustard

    Sweet pickle relish

    Chopped hard boiled egg

    Salt and pepper to taste

ETA: If you like onion, which hubby does not, add grated onion or onion powder.

When we travel, one of our favorite places for chicken sandwiches is Panera Bread. I especially like their Grilled Chicken & Avo BLT triple-decker sandwich and the Smokehouse BBQ Chicken. We also love places that offer banh mi with a crunchy, flavorful baguette.

I often buy the half turkey breasts at TJ’s just to cook for sandwiches. I like to use ciabatta rolls or maybe an everything bagel with turkey, tomato, gruyere, mayo, touch of Dijon, avocado and lettuce. DH would want bacon for his.

Regarding chicken, I mostly prefer chicken salad for sandwiches on squaw bread/rolls or whole wheat.

I love a post Thanksgiving turkey sandwich on any kind of good bread, with mayo and stuffing. Or with cream cheese and cranberry sauce, or open face on buttered bread covered with gravy. I guess I don’t favor chicken sandwiches because I can’t think of one I prefer.. oh, maybe curried chicken salad on a croissant.

We do the same as chloebud, getting half breasts at TJs. Maybe once a month, to have a few days of turkey sandwiches. I don't like cheese on a turkey sandwich, it seems to overwhelm the meat's flavor. For the sandwich for me it's mostly mayo and a tomato slice.

The deli-meat style pressed/processed turkey meat is an abomonation, I won't touch it.

Neither of us particularly cares for chicken sandwiches, the possibilities seem limited. If I or she goes to the trouble to do the chopping of celery and red or green onion to make chicken salad, I'd rather keep the chicken out and throw in tuna. It's tastier.

Deep fried chicken tastes mostly like deep friend anything. We don't eat it.

Simple, simple for me - either chicken or turkey white meat with just mayo and lettuce, and no lettuce is OK too. I usually have either my own roasted chicken or organic roast turkey slices from the grocery store. My bread of choice these days is Aldi's organic Italian sourdough Boule -which is quite the mashup of terms 😄

    I like it lightly toasted

Haven't had a club sandwich for many years, but they were once my fave.

SO likes when I make club sandwiches. I use turkey, chicken and bacon with cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomato. Just the deli sliced turkey and chicken. Neither one of us eat enough sandwiches with that kind of meat to justify cooking it myself to keep around. I actually do not really eat them at all. I would prefer ham or roast beef or even bologna over those two. Or a regular BLT. MMMMMMM. . I will bake homemade white sandwich bread to toast and make the sandwich with though.

I will occasionally make fried chicken sandwiches. Just a pounded, seasoned, breaded and deep fried chicken breast, on a bun toasted in buttah, sometimes I will put mayo, sometimes i will put homemade ranch dressing if i have some, lettuce and tomato for him, extra dill pickles for me. We will do the same with a grilled chicken breast, no breading of course, if SO is in the mood to grill.

I will make chicken salad out of a rotisserie chicken, also for SO as I do not like it. I use the chicken, some hard boiled eggs, a little mayo, green onion, a peeled and finely diced apple, salt and pepper. Sometimes he eats it on a toasted crossiant, sometimes just with crackers.

These threads are going to be my downfall! I love sandwiches but am trying to lose some weight before summer, so am limiting my bread intake. So instead of succumbing to a sandwich, I made turkey salad, with celery, red onion, mayo and Greek yogurt mixed, on a bed of shredded romaine and sprinkled with Trader Joe's toasted garlic chips (I would have had toasted almonds but the ones I had weren't toasted and I didn't want to take time to toast them). It satisfied the urge for a sandwich; not sure what I'm going to do about the taco thread, lol!

So my daily sandwich every day (for now) is Trader's Organic Super Bread with five slices of very thinly sliced mozzarella cheese, 1/2 avocado, and one hard-boiled egg, salt pepper, butter spread on bread and put in the panini for four minutes.

Our local deli is the kingdom of Sloppy Joe sandwiches. Turkey, swiss, cole slaw, russian dressing on rye. They do it with corned beef too. A mess to eat, but so good. Their other masterpiece is The Gobbler. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo. I don't do the mayo. I've had variations of this in other places, but theirs is the best. I haven't been there in quite a while.....

laceyvail, I haven't had artichoke hearts in a very long time. When I lived in San Francisco, a jar and a fork made for a very good meal. I will have to remember to get some next time I am at the grocery.

I, too, like hearing about everyone's favorites. It gives me some good ideas on how to switch up a sandwich instead of having the same old thing every time. Thanks.

Then there’s a couple other favorites: roast beef or leftover meatloaf on buttered bread or roll, with ketchup. We sometimes get roast beef sliced from the deli, but leftover is so good, too. Or, leftover meatballs on a long roll.

DH used to ask why I got extra meat to cook or dinner from the deli or hot bar. This is why. Leftovers for lunch.

    Sherry8aNorthAL thanked bpath

bpath, I agree with your leftovers philosophy. I love leftover meatloaf. It is as good or even better than hot.

I have always been disappointed by the roast beef I have gotten at the deli. We used to have a great delicatessin right close by and they did have good roast beef. You could get it rare or well done, which is how I like it. Anyway there was a big fire and the whole building burned down. They didn't rebuild. I don't know if they owned the building or not. It is missed by everyone here in town. Lots of people ordered their thanksgiving turkeys from them and they also had a freezer case of fresh fish and they also had city chicken available in the meat displays.

I have a recipe for meatloaf and onions for the crockpot that I am going to try tomorrow. I need to get the stuff today so I can do that.

Murraysmom, , post recipe for the meatloaf if you like it. I am enjoying all the ideas. We need a beef thread and a Crock Pot thread. I get bored with the same stuff all the time and it is hard cooking for two, sometimes one, since he doesn’t like everything I do.

    Thanks, Everyone

HEB in Texas makes the best turkey salad with cranberries, nuts, and cubes and smaller chunks of turkey. I only can get it when I am in Texas. At home I love rotisserie chicken, still warm on white bread and butter.

Sherry, I made the meatloaf in the crockpot yesterday. It was just ok as far as I'm concerned. I personally think making it in the oven is better. This really is sort of steamed since it's in the crockpot. It was 2 lbs. of ground beef and I used only one large onion. The recipe called for 2. I can print the recipe if anyone wants it but I won't make it again. I prefer chicken or beef stew done in the crockpot. Ground beef doesn't seem to lend itself to that kind of cooking.

I am a chicken salad lover, but do also love leftover turkey and chicken breast thickly sliced with my buttery spread ( Brummel and Brown). No veggies on the chicken or turkey breast slices for me and always a 'bird seed bread' as hubby calls it. I do love whole grain breads.
