Take it slow, Kendrah. (This is the perfect place for distraction--Mtn's hunt for the perfect dress comes to mind.)

I have a suggestion for Subzero: When you next update your models, please include a hysterectomy mode. The seal is so strong, I don’t think I will be able yank the door open on my own for another six weeks!

We have a studio apartment down the hall with a minifridge. I think I may need to stash some food over there so I can eat when my husband is out and can’t heave the subzero open. First world problems - and solutions, for sure. :)

Why do they call it a hysterectomy? Shouldn't it be a "her"sterectomy???

Hope your recover goes smoothly from here!

Good to hear from you Kendrah.

In re the Subzero door, if it is newly difficult to open, try vacuuming the condenser. That was our issue.

Clean the condenser every six to twelve months to keep Sub-Zero refrigeration products operating their best.

Late, but adding my wishes to feel better soon!

@mtnrdredux_gw - That is just the motivation we needed to vacuum the condenser. Thank you! I have been able to open the fridge door now. What freedom.

I am so, so tired. I have a few days where I think I am recovering well, and then a day or two that feel like two steps back. This is certainly not a linear recovery. I need to watch more BritBox and forget about my body today.

Recuperation from surgery is NOT a straight line. Try to reset your perception of it and know that it is 100% ME time. Read a book you meant to read last year, call old friends to catch up, scour recipes to convince yourself you will try them, whatever it takes to keep STILL. Your innards are knitting back together. Give them a chance.

This is such sound advice. Thank you @RedRyder. I'm usually pretty patient, used to being a homebody, accustomed to being sick in bed with immunue issues. I'm surprised how fiesty I'm being about this surgical recovery.

I am, unfortunately, all too familiar with surgery and recuperation. Take my word for this - you need to try doing more every day, BUT - sit (or lay) down when your body starts shrieking. Do not fight the fatigue. Make sure to take enough pain meds so you move around. Not taking pain meds reduces your willingness to get out of bed and that’s not good.

Kendrah - I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 38 (two years later, I had my right ovary removed). Mine was a LAVH (this type is used for complex cases - e.g., involving endometriosis - I had 13+ surgeries for severe endometriosis prior to having my LAVH).

I had two daughters - 13 and 8 - which kept me busy as a single mom + worked 50+ hours/week as an attorney. I was NOT used to taking it easy.

I made the mistake of trying to do too much too soon. I started to feel okay - so, I thought I'd bill some work hours + do a little around the house + took my dogs for a little walk (summer had just started and I couldn't stand being inside the house). It really set back my recovery due to pushing myself too quickly.

Recovering from a hysterectomy is definitely not linear - I had quite a few ups and downs (not just the "down" caused by my stupidity). I never watched any TV back then - only movies with my daughters. There were decent options for streaming movies then - unfortunately, BritBox was not an option.

Try to RELAX and SLEEP (I should have taken more naps). Relaxing is an important part of the healing process. Pelvic surgery causes trauma to those muscles = they become "hyperactive" as they try to "protect" that area. I wound up with hypertonic pelvic floor dysfunction due to all of the trauma caused by so many pelvic surgeries (+ having endometriosis + interstitial cystitis). Teaching your body to relax those muscles (+ your body/mind generally) after having a hysterectomy will help to prevent developing hypertonic PFD.

Sending good thoughts your way - take care of yourself!

I'm thrilled that I have not needed to take the opiods. I have been on a steady diet of tylenol and advil. I tried to cut back a smidge, but I still clearly need the full amount. Some days I'm up for walking a few blocks and pacing the hallways. Other days I am not. I just forced myself to go outside and walk around the garden.

Today is a fatigue day. Without getting too graphic, I'll just say I had a tiny tear down there from surgery that opened a few days ago. It has made going to the bathroom a complete chore, which I think is zapping my energy. I've never given birth. I feel so badly for ladies who are dealing with this after child birth in the midst of no sleep and taking care of a baby. How do they do it?

Had a hyst (partial) at age 37, back for the rest at age 42....horrible periods due to endometriosis. Even as a nurse, I was impatient with recovery & one of the Dr.'s nurses said to measure my progress by the week, not by the day. That helped me, as day to day varies so much. Hope that helps as you continue to recover!!

Not needing the meds is great!

I am glad I could be a bit of help!

Good on you for powering through without opiods, but agree too with those who say pain medication is part of recovering.... and resting!

Hope you are finding something good to binge on. This too shall pass.

Kendrah, I'm sorry to have missed this. I'm glad to hear you're on the mend, even though a small hitch. Not needing the heavy meds is huge. Take it easy and rest up.

Funny about the SZ fridge; I always thought that was a personal modification my sister had on hers to help with her diet.

Kendrah, best wishes for strength and patience as you progress!

Kendrah, it's good you're getting up and walking around, even if just a bit on days when you don't feel well. My sister had a hysterectomy a few years ago, and I helped her during recovery. Hers went just as yours seems to be... she felt good some days, but had days of discomfort and fatique interspersed. But walking, eating a healthy diet (lots of protein for repair), and plenty of sleep and daytime naps seemed to help.

Keep moving forward! Wishing you continued recovery.
