Problem decorating on top of three adjoining living room cabinets!

We just purchased a one bedroom co-op and I have already tried three different layouts on top of the cabinets. The picture showing decorations on the cabinets is the 4th try and I still think it can be a lot better, but I’m stuck. We plan on buying a larger tv soon and maybe that will help fill the space better. I’m including pictures of the entire layout of the living/dining area, hoping that may help.I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions. Thank you, Peggy

You can pick up a much larger TV for likely less than $360 that will be more appropriate for the cabinet and the room.

Up grade your area rug selection to something a bit more exciting in an 8x10 size

When you get the larger TV please hang it on the wall. I understand this gives you more flat area to style but a pretty bowl/vase maybe a low plant centered under the TV will give you a nice start.

Very pretty cabinets. I agree that a larger TV will resolve several ’balance / scale’ issues. The 2 hurricane candle sticks & 2 small items sitting on cabinet aren’t my cup of tea. I do like the large gold vase / pot. I’d wait until you have the larger TV to decide what other items to add but I’d choose items with the same kind of heft or impact as the gold vase.

You’re not asking about your area rugs but I agree with Beverly. What’s bothering me is that it looks like both rugs are jammed against the long back wall just to create a pathway to walk around both rugs. Please try centering the dining rug between the 2 dining walls - I think that move will have the dining table in same spot - centered in the space. The LR rug might be lined up with back wall & window walls but that can’t be seen in the photos. If it is, then just pull it out away from those walls - hopefully the sofa front feet are still on rug. My goal would be to have front legs of sofa & 2 chairs on rug & the side of rug closest to DR & closet be lined up more closely to the closet end of the TV cabinets. These suggested changes are, in my mind’s eye, all about balancing the items within the space. Could the LR chair that’s closest to dining area be pulled a bit away from the wall & angled a bit more towards the windows?

Get a Samsung Frame TV and hang it on the wall, so you have something pretty to look at when you aren't watching TV.

I'd see how the cabinet fits in the bedroom. A 65 or 77" tv wall mounted with no console will give you the options for better arrangements.

Given how the three cabinets are so close to the closet door I would try two and find another place for the third cabinet. Some empty space is a good thing too.

+1 to a larger TV and consider a wall mounted Frame TV as suggested by @chispa. It has a narrow profile and lays so close to the wall that it will look much better when entering the adjacent front door.

How wide are the 3 cabinets?

Try taping an outline of the larger TV on the wall and adding a photo to your post.

The cabinets are so pretty - do you mind sharing where you found them?

Hang t v ln wall...bring up the eye; decorate around it; use the width of the console to position your design.

Can you show what is over the sofa?

My impression is it isn't strong enough to balance the wall across from the t v and brown console.

much for your time and great ideas, love them. I will take picture requested tomorrow and also answer questions asked. Again, much appreciated!!

You’ve given me so many great ideas. I will be returning the hurricane candle sticks. Never really noticed the placement of the rugs until I looked at the pictures I posted and I totally agree. They look out of proportion..
Thank you KWPNWZ8 for all of the exact details for carpet arrangement. Leaving this location for the summer so will be our next winter project.
I needed so much more storage space, therefore the three cabinets. They are 15 inches wide and will not fit any place else.
DANI-M08. The 3 cabinets are from Wayfair.
I love the pictures of the bigger TV and the arrangement on the cabinets and also with the arrangement on the wall.
Thank you all again immensely for all of your time and help. I will try to attach the picture from across the room now looking at the couch..

Thanks again. Let me know your thoughts, please.

Your space looks like it has a calm, peaceful look with the neutral color scheme. IMO much of the seating arrangement of a space is personal so my thoughts may not be helpful to you or how you use the space. With that disclaimer, here’s my thoughts as you ask us all for.

This space feels like it can be a good place for relaxing with a good book, watching TV or visiting with friends. But, the seating pieces are too far apart & don’t have convenient places to set a glass / cup /book. As mentioned earlier I’d move that grey armchair away from the wall & face it more towards window. If that chair is too tall & feels like it blocks air space view to window, swap it with the white chair that’s close to window now. Move The floor lamp to corner where plant is & move table & lamp to wall side of the chair. It should be close enough to chair to serve as reading light & place to set cup on. Place second chair closer to chaise end of sofa with the nesting tables by that chair. Place plant that was in corner on the floor next to the tall dresser & what looks like a vintage mirror at entry. It looks like that plant pot is sitting on something now to raise it up - set it on the floor. It also looks like the plant is in a nice gold tone pot that plays well with the large pot on TV cabinets & the entry mirror. The plant will nicely accent the entry set up - the mirror is a nice piece of drama as well as a place to check your appearance on the way in / out.

The art over the sofa is interesting texture but IMO it’s lost with no color & it’s hung way too high. It’s the same shape & hanging height as mirror in dining room & that’s all I notice about it. Think about hanging the two pieces vertically over the TV cabinet, one on each side of the new larger TV. They will add interest to that wall & since they are pure texture with no ”distracting” image, pieces like the large gold pot that’s on TV cabinets now can be placed in front of them without creating a too busy scene. A very large art over the sofa - at least as wide as these two textural pieces & twice as tall - would look great on that wall. The image is up to you - something that is the same colors as the room & with the same peaceful feel. A large park like landscape or something of that type?

So, those are my thoughts & impressions! It’s a great space but I want to cozy it up a bit.

I think the tv is in the wrong location. the cabinets look like they are partially blocking a door. the furniture is lined up in the other side and doesn't look conducive to conversation. try two cabinets on the opposite wall with the tv and have two chairs on the corner of the cabinets and tge sofa facing the tv.

Dani_mo8: I found this cabinet on Wayfair as the OP suggested. You will see the depth is 15 inches and the width is 30.7 inches.

Wow, thank you again for all your suggestions. I can’t wait to get started making some of these changes. If I manage to get some things rearranged before we leave this location, I will post pictures. Otherwise I have to wait until we return in the late fall.
I love the idea of changing the pictures behind the couch and placing them vertically on the cabinets with the TV.
Now the thing that is troubling me, the most is the disproportionately laid carpets, which I never noticed before.
But there is one thing I would like to say, the first comment that is made when someone comes through the door is how relaxing and calming the room feels. I also feel it, and I’m happy for that. You have been such a great help and I really want to thank you for all your time and detailed suggestions.
