Where to place microwave and steam oven

last month

Red X's show potential new space. Trying to do two Wolf 30" models.

Placing under the countertop on each side of the oven is easiest, and I can just put the doors on cabonets add lowers once the fridge is moved and be done.

Placing where the current fridge is and stacking over the countertop will require a little more work. Not a bid deal.

Alos, if doing option 1, I could leave deeper cabinets (wehre the current fridge is) as is, or could modify to the depth of existing cabinets so it flows better. This will involve the most work due to having to fix ceiling fur downs. Else, I could just put doors on, add lower cabinets and call it a day. I feel that having deeper cabinets is always nice for extra storage. But I am more concerned about the flow.

New 48" SZ fridge is getting placed on the left side of the kitchen. Countertops and lights will all be getting replaced.

Thank you

I would go with a 24" Miele CSO XXL and 24" Sharp MW drawer.

Sharp makes all the microwaves for other companies. You want the model with tilting keypad.

I need to work with the space I have and the brands mentioned.

although I don't like anything near the door, too crowded with activity.

I would keep down low. Easier and safer.

A scaled 2D layout of the space would make things easier. The clearance distance between opposite counters is important for flow. 42" is OK. The 2 30" appliances can go in the old frig space. For better pot/pan access I'd change the 2 drawer cabs to the left of the range for one wider drawer cab. If you're changing the island counter I'd move the sink to the right in your picture for better back to back clearance for 2 people using the range and sink.

I also don't like the frig in the doorway traffic. I'd put it where the current frig is and put the added ovens where you have the SZ going.

The 48" new fridge has to go in the new space. THis space is much larger than what it looks. The doorway traffic is minimal to that room. The doorway traffic near the old fridge is much greater as that is the entrance to garage and aundry. The clarance near the current fridge is very tight at 35" and now at 39" cabinet to island.

Placing the steam oven low may cause steam burning the person when opening, hece one of the reason I prefer to put it up.

If the person doing the cooking is you, you will only open the steam oven once and get a waft of steam in the face. It won't burn unless you really stick your face in there. You will learn and not do it again.

In my previous my Miele CSO was in the island, under the counter.

It can still happen with the oven placed higher, heat/steam escapes a confined space when you open the door, whatever the height, so not a reason not to place the oven elsewhere.

Is the MW a MW drawer or a standard MW? If a standard MW, be aware that they are not easy to use when installed under the counter. You have to crouch down to see inside when adding/removing dishes, when stirring, and when trying to operate the controls.

(Note that you will be blindly reaching into those ovens if you don't crouch down - with hot, steaming food & dishes.)

Thanks for the correction, Chispa! (I'll edit my post to remove the reference. Admittedly, I do not have a steam oven and was thinking it was similar to the design of a MW. I put this comment in so people would know what you are talking about in your comment. :-) )

I think I have made the decision on where it is going to go. I will post an update once done. Thanks all!

When I remodeled my kitchen, the steam oven was originally too low and the steam hit me in the face -- I had it moved higher. The microwave drawer is below my steam oven. Ideally, I would put the microwave in an island if I had an island.
