Would these exterior colors look nice together? UPDATE

last month
last modified: 26 days ago

Had the house painted on Monday. LOVE the results! Thank you all for input. We will paint the vent over the garage door, but I was so emphatic about not painting the stucco bump outs that the painters left it.

We just bought a house that needs exterior paining. HOA limits color choices. These are on the pre-approved list: Canvas Tan (SW 7531) for stucco, Folkstone (SW 6005) for garage door and trim, Rocky River (SW 6215) for front door and shutters. We live in central Texas and the house faces NW. The stone is limestone. Thank you for your input!

Is it possible to remove those silly shutters at least. Yes we need to see all the colors together in a pic posted here in a comment.

I generally prefer a crisp white trim but in the photo above the trim on the arches looks odd. Would you be allowed to paint the trim there the same color as the wall? That migh look better.

Given the HOV’s color limitations and assume there are other homes similar to yours…have you driven around the neighbourhood and been able to identify a combination that appeals to you?

the middle pic is folkstone. I like canvas tan for the body of the house but since your existing garage door color is similar to folkstone can you paint the body first and then see if the darker garage door stands out too much?

Sorry about delay in paint colors - late night. Removing the shutters would be problematic (not impossible but more HOA involvement) as the stucco would need to be restructured to make it match the rest of the house.

North/west exposure...one likes green, the other like blue. Put that together and you've got Rocky River, deep blue/green undertones.

Canvas Tan has a yellow undertone, so good for the north light, but not as good for the afternoon west light which can very mean things to yellow.

Folkstone has a kind of odd undertone, purple/red. The purple tone is fine with north light, but again the strong west light isn't going to show it at its best. I would not use it as the trim color. If you could do the trim in a bright white, that would be another story.

Any chance you could do a bit lighter than the siding for the trim, or could you do the trim the same color as the siding in a glossy finish? You would get this effect with Rocky River as the accent for front door, and shutters (which don't belong on the house).

A big thank you to everyone for your comments, ideas and images. The HOA is specific about the sheen and number of colors required, as well as the location where a color can be used. The renderings with Canvas Tan and River Rock looks great - so that is reassuring. Thank you Celery and oncape. I may have to substiture out Folkstone for a lighter color on the strip with Canvas Tan (a few are on the approved list).

Attitude Gray is coordinating color for Canvas Tan might work with River Rock as well.

Would the HOA allow a garage trellis above the double door? That area shows a lot of stucco, maybe soften it and break up the lines a bit.
